Yep I’ve got the 50-500mm lens. Still trying to get used to the weight. Some difference compared with my FZ10 that I used previously.

    Thanks for the comments guys.

Unfortunately there wasn’t another 9 ship of F3’s, although 10 were parked up over on the ramp.

The Danish F-16s did fly a display.

To top the day off there was a race between a dragster and a F3. My last pic above is of the F3 during that race.

BBMF Dak arrived at Leuchars around 1245 this afternoon. Did a lovely flypast before landing. Spitfire and Hurricane arrived 15 mins later.

    Fascinated by the machines….

As for favourites, always had a soft spot for the Whirlwind and Belvedere.

The charges are set to whatever the airline has managed to negotiate with each airport hence the variation, although certain charges are fixed, such as airport departure tax.

Basically each airport charge the airlines a fee for each passenger that passes through the airport. The fees cover such things as baggage handling, security checks, use of airport facilities (toilets etc), use of check-in desks, etc, etc.

    RotarWing,

I presume your aim is to become a licensed engineer on helicopters and not fixed wing?

What you’ve been told is correct, the course content for helicopters is different from fixed wing. I suggest you look at the CAA website for further info.

    http://www.caa.co.uk/default.aspx?categoryid=177&pagetype=68&groupid=777

Beware getting an engineering licence is a very, very hard slog. My younger brother finally completed his last exam around Xmas time – but is still awaiting the CAA to issue his licence. Despite completing an approved apprenticeship – it has taken him just under nine years to get to this point. Granted he has had one or two setbacks through the years, including being made redundant at the end of his apprenticeship.

The minimum time it takes to obtain a licence is around five years, assuming no setbacks nor exam failures and that you get decent work experience.

If you’ve got your heart set on becoming a licensed helicopter engineer, I’d suggest you try and get an apprenticeship with a helicopter operator. This should ensure that you get the relevant work experience towards any licence issue.

I am not a genious in this area but it seems to me that it is only ryanair who have these kinds of problems!!!

You never hear of Jet2 or air southwest having these sorts of issues with airports!!!

Trust me Ryanair are not the only ones with this problem, its just that Ryanair use the dispute for publicity and to put additional pressure on the airport(s) in question.

Cannot believe that airlines and aircraft manufacturers give in to this sort of bs in the year of 2006. I regard this as an insult to all aerospace engineers, pilots and mechanics having developed/are working with the aircraft.

    regards,
    Cliff

A bit OTT, considering its the airlines that decide if row 13 is numbered as such.

In anycase you’d be surprised as to how superstitious the industry can be – engineers and pilots included!

To be frank its a very complex subject. However as someone who has seen the effects of fleet commonality, I can tell you the cost savings are not to be sniffed at – i.e. several million ££s!!!

With regards to the benefits on the crew side of things, if an airline operates a fleet of 10 a/c for its short haul operation, regardless if its a single type or mixed fleet, the airline will still need approximately the same number of pilots.

There is an ‘art’ to criticism, just posting a message saying a picture is rubbish doesn’t do anyone any favours, the aim should be CONSTRUCTIVE criticism.

Just a year or two back, there were certain young forum members posting pics. Several other forum members offered advice and constructive criticism, and over time the quality of pics improved. Quite unlike the historic forum where derogatory comments are a bit too common for my liking.

BA have issued a press release on their website, (http://www.ba.com) with regards the future of the BA collection, if anyone is interested.

The VC10 is up for the chop too, with the ‘intention’ of sending the front section to Brooklands, along with some parts of ‘technical interest’.

The aviation industry is not as ‘fuddy-duddy’ as you think. If you were able to view ‘behind-the-scenes’ of any airline you would more than likely find a relatively ‘young’ management team. The first airline I worked for, was originally setup by two people in their mid-twenties, with a couple of 19 seat aircraft, operating ad-hoc charters for the oil industry. Nine years later it had a fleet of eight SF340’s and a single BAe 146 operating across the UK and Europe and was sold to a large UK airline group.

Age is not a handicap – lack of experience is. Even though the two people who started the airline were young, they had already gained several years commerical experience with a now defunct UK airline. As with so many others, they came into this industry straight from school/college and worked their way up.
