PS It should have said 2000 on the title…oooppps!
I didn’t even realise Kennet were working on a seafire let alone nearly getting one flying. The only one I’d seen was the aforementioned US a/c. Fingers crossed.
Just looking at the IWM it mentions Seafire-F (as in flying ) is this a typo or can anybody shed any light on this?
😀
Not sure about the Harriers overall safety record but I suppose this highlights the problems of a relatively complicated and single engine a/c.
Eng goes poof and the a/c suddenly turns in to a brieze block ( hope thats the way you spell it! ) and then there’s only one way it’s going to go then.
Although modern engines are pretty reliable it could well be that the new US UK VTOL fighter ( can’t remember it’s designation) will have the same problems with attrition.
Probably also explains the CAA’s viewpoint on privately operated Harriers too!
Sitting in NX611 ( the Lanc) at East Kirby on one of her taxy demos.
From memory about £190.

I really remember the Queens Silver Jubilee airshow at Finningley as a kid especially the F111 Aussie doing his dump and burn routine. Frightened me f@$tless!!!
Other notables..
The IAS at Middle Wallop and the massed approach.
The early RIAT days at Greenham and the VE day set piece.
Just wish I’d been to the Duxford BOB show!
Good days.
From my memory didn’t the BBMF do a synchro routine with a spit and and F2/3 for a year in the mid 80’s?
Bloomin’ marvellous it was too1
As has been mentioned…it would be great to see this beautie witha 190 and a new build 262!!!
Great photos.
Sitting in the LHS of a seneca being used as a photoship for the old RR Mossie HTE as a preview for an airshow at Humberside airport yonks ago.

When have Pakistani Airlines ever done wrong to us?
Seems a bit OTT to ground one of their longhaul fleet at such short notice?!!!!

Digby,
Which mark old chap? Mk 9 or F24’s being my personal favourites!! 🙂
Toodle Pip!
Having seen the latest couple of threads entered while I’ve been tapping away furiously at this keyboard can I take you up on the offer of a pint….It did meen you were paying didn’t it!!! 😉
Being the chap who started the original “Why the Secrecy…” thread I feel that I should clarify a few things.
Maybe the title wasn’t the best I’ve ever picked but I was merely wondering why, unlike previous years,TFC hadn’t published a list of provisionally booked a/c to whet the appetite.
I,like most here I imagine, would go to Legends come what may and I take my hat off to MR Grey for what he has done for the UK warbird scene and I would never ever say a bad word about the guy. Hoever, I am naturally curious as to what may turn up ,just like a kiddy in the run up to Christmas. If this makes me a bad person, an anorak, an ungrateful sod or whatever then I’m sure others will make up their minds but one thing I do know is that in no way do I take it for granted and even if a/c do not turn up I am not bothered and I do not get the urge to berate TFC engineers for their tardiness.
So to some up, im my eyes , speculation and excitement about a forthcoming airshow containing the finest collection of a/c in the UK and Europe is not a bad thing and if you think it is Steve welll I have to beg to differ but we all have our opinions.
Legends Is by far and away the best European and Possibly global ‘vintage’ airshow and the pilots, engineers, finaciers and office people who make it all happen should all be mightily congratulated. Wouldn’t it be a bit sad to see no enthusiasm and anticipation as we see on this forum from all of us prospective customers?
Right, rant over, now to find my anorak and windbreak!!!!
PS Come on TFC pull your finger out and get Princess Elizabeth in the air again!!!! 😉
Just thought….Having 4 guesses reminds me of that bloomin’ Mastermind game when I was a kid!!!
Varsity,Phantom,Hastings,Lightning????
