With all the discussion around the Anson I went back to my Dad’s photo collection and came up with this alternate view of it – perhaps it will help.

    Paul,

Amazing – the same picture. The one I have is definitely a photograph – perhaps one of a number of prints made at the time. My Dad did serve as a member of the ground crew with 501 Squadron from before the war until he was sent to Canada for the Commonwealth Training program.

Thanks to you and all the others – wonderful help from every one.

Having had a closer look at the photo I can see the taped over gun ports – thanks for putting me straight.

    John,

Thanks for your very quick reply.

    Paul,

Thanks for your reply. Looking at some other photos I came across this one which appears to be a frontal view of the crashed Hurricane after it had been put up on it’s wheels. You can see the damage to the turf under the plane and that it sure looks like a 2 bladed prop.

A further point – I’m not sure but there does not appear to be any gun ports on the leading edge of the wing – in the side view I had assumed the opening was a landing light. Dumb question – why would a fighter not have guns?

    Gary
