Considering the close proximity of the two nations, the evolving situation is a nightmarish scenario. Unfortunately the nuclear/missile race in the region will only get worse with time-unless sane minds prevail. While India can afford to invest in anti BM projects and Pak cannot, the latter would take the cheaper option and look to increase the production of fissile material and more advanced missile. India is bound to reciprocate. And the cycle would go on.
^Pinko, even in Aug 2003 J-10 was still being referred to as photoshopped in some quarters.
Blimey, somethings are not forgotten easily.:-D
^What is IAF paying now-42 mln/plane-including weapons. 50 mln/machine for qatari machines-newer airframes-including weapons does not sound a bad deal in comparison. Though i have not adjusted for inflation, its reasonable to assume that qataris would have lowered their offer a little if indians were a bit more generous with their offer. Its seems to have been a wasted opportunity though who knows about future!:-)
Teer, what is the the projected retirement date for those bisons & upg mig-27/jags?
Also, does anyone have any credible figures for LCA flyaway unit cost?
As usual the reality is most likely to be somewhere in the middle of two extremes.:-)
All AFs have their own plans/goals. While some of their bear fruit others do not, and in many cases their are contingency plans in case the original goal is not achieved.
According to Janes, PAK is buying 20 CH3-med range long endurance armed UAV equipped with FT-5 which is a SAL equipped SDB of 55-75kg. On a side note, IMO showcasing of LS-6 with JF-17 is also indicative that SDB based on LS-6 equipped with basic INS/GPS and SAL-50/100kg-will also be integrated with JF-17. MAR-1 is also a good candidate for JF-17. And the list keeps growing. I think JF-17 will feature a number of integrated weapons ranging from AAM to PGM, AShM, ARM, SDB, cruise missle in short to med term.
A recent article from Janes states that SD-10A will become operational on JF-17 by the year end. This timeline is similar to the one given by PAF officials at Farnborough 2010, i.e. 6 months. In any case it appears that the actual date is quite near, be it this year or next. On another note, SD-10A seeker is said to be dual mode, i.e. Active & Passive-homing in on enemy radar &
EW emissions. Apparently it was designed in this manner from the start.
Ps. I remember another Janes news that talks of LOJ mode.
Are you talking about that sdb with gps, inertial and laser or IIR terminal homing which is being developed inhouse by Pakistani firms? If so then that is great. 😀
With laser…most likely the first stop. But they are in the process or have plans to add plenty of other stuff.
Six Blk 52+ arrived at PAF airbase Jacobabad earlier tyoday, bringing the total to 12 so far.
Furthermore, technical/commercial evaluations/negotiations for j-10 are almost complete and a contract is likely to be signed soon. Finally PAF will soon have 25 jf-17 and its first zdk-03.
ps. We might hear of jf-17 being utilised in CAS/COIN role with PGM/SDB in near future.;-)
Too many rumours. L-15 only exists in prototype form for now. It MIGHT find its way into PAF to replace FT-5/6 but not for a few years yet. As for SAMs, sure there are big holes in pak AD, and its likely that they would opt for chinese solutions. As for now they are checking & poss even evaluating different systems. As for the unconfirmed rumours, pak already has a few HQ-9/FD2K.;-)
Some solid news from this airshow, however, include ongoing integration of sd-10 on jf-17.
The next batch comprising 6 blk 52+ arriving in pak tomorrow.
BVR- its currently being integrated; along with other things such as C802A. At farnborough they were talking of 6 months or so before test firings.
ps. I must add that everyone in PAF appears to be perfectly happy with the chinese radar especially in A2A-they put it way above what they had on their old vipers.

Russia to sell additional RD-93 jet engines to China
14:28 16/11/2010
Russia’s state-run arms exporter Rosoboronexport is preparing a contract for the delivery of additional RD-93 jet engines to China, a senior official from the company said on Tuesday.
Beijing concluded a $238-mln contract with Moscow in 2005 for supplies of a 100 RD-93 engines with options for another 400 to equip its FC-1 Fierce Dragon fighter jets, jointly developed with Pakistan.
“We are holding new talks with the China National Aero-Technology Import & Export Corporation [CATIC] on another option for additional 100 RD-93 engines,” Deputy General Director of Rosoboronexport Alexander Mikheyev said at the Airshow China 2010, which is being held on November 16-21 in Zhuhai.
“We hope that this contract will be signed,” Mikheyev added.
The RD-93 engines is a variant of the RD-33 engine developed to power the MiG-29 fighter jet.
The RD-93 was developed by Russia’s Klimov design bureau specifically for the FC-1 fighter, known in Pakistan as the JF-17 Thunder.
ZHUHAI (China), November 16 (RIA Novosti)
Added later: If the next contract materialises (and I think it would), where does this leave WS-13 and the talk of its testing on FC-1? I guess its years away yet.
