RE: bmi baby new Cardiff hub

Well when I lived in Wales every weekend I travelled from Belfast to Wales on a friday and back to Belfast on a Sunday during ’97/’98. Back them old days the best way to get to your destination was to go to Bristol and Birmingham this was the most popular way with most of the South and Eastern areas of Wales. Not sure how popular it is now!

    RE: Ryanair

Speaking of Ryan Air and expansion…

Ryan Air are to start a Aldergrove (Belfast International, BFS/EGAA)to London and also possibly Dublin and France or some european country!

THey used to be at Belfast City airport but pulled out a while ago.

This must be because of easyJet’s take over of Go. There has always been competition on the Belfast routes especially as go and easyjet run Glasgow and Edinburgh routes at roughly the same time of day! Ryan Air must be moving for the kill as easyjet under the takeover of Go will fly to London Stansted so now Ryan Air will to increase competition.

Aparently first ATC call to warn Tu154 was 50 SECONDS before impact. Both aircraft dived to avert each other!

Rabie, we are looking for two kinds of people:

    a) Graphic designers to help with grpahics for the magazine

    and

    b) People who know about HTML and perhaps also ASP, to help design a webpage for flaps.

If you would like to apply go to:

    RE: Aircraft collide over Germany

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 02-07-02 AT 08:47 AM (GMT)]a) The Russian Airliner was not responding to ATC and wouldnt drop altitude. Since he then didnt tell the DHL757 to drop I would say it is ATC error as he must have failed to spot the 757 until it was Red blips and by that stage it could have been too late.

    b) How safe is the Tu-154? (from BBC)

By Paul Duffy Russian Editor, Air Transport World
The Tupolev-154, the plane involved in a mid-air collision over southern Germany, is a model with a chequered safety record.

But this may owe more to errors than to technical problems.

The Tu-154 has for 25 years been the backbone of Russia and the Soviet Union’s air transport system.

It has carried half the number of all passengers flown by Aeroflot and its successors in that time, with that number peaking at 137 million per year in 1990.

A total of 923 have been built, and approximately 530 remain in service in Russia.

The aircraft entered service in 1972 and was “modernised” in 1986, with new engines and equipment to improve its fuel consumption and flight operations.

    History

The Chinese Government decided late last year to withdraw the 154 fleet from its airlines by 1 July, and so this and several others were sold back to Russia.

It returned to the factory where it had been built, in Samara, and received a complete overhaul, although it is not yet clear whether this covered the engines.

Since its service entry, some 28 154s have been lost in accidents, a figure about normal for the quantity, years of service and technology of the type.

    Difficult conditions

The accident record of the 154 compares quite well with the 68 727s lost of over 1,600 built.

However, the comparison is not totally valid – a 727 generally flies more often than a 154, and the 154 flies in a region with not so good air traffic control and navigation equipment, and in very difficult weather conditions.

The 154 accidents include several that have little relation to the aircraft.

In 1982, an aircraft landing at Omsk in Russia in a heavy snowstorm – normal for Russian winters – hit six snowploughs that had not been told to leave the runway as the aircraft landed.

    Freak accidents

And about five have been shot down by enemy or terrorist attacks in Lebanon, Georgia and Afghanistan during the civil wars in those countries.

One landed safely in a field after its cargo of cigarettes caught fire but was completely burnt.

Another ran out of fuel five miles short of the runway when the state airline of an almost bankrupt country decided to carry less fuel from its base, where the price was high.

Up until July 2001, only two Tu-154 accidents had involved technical failure.

The 154M is likely to remain in service in Russia and the CIS for another 10 or 12 years.

    RE: easyJet

Its only £28!!! This is because easyjet have £0 (£6.60 including TAX) fares between but as the aircraft fill up the flights get more expensive. Its goes; £0->£3.40->£5.90->£6.40->£8.60->£10.90…

    I got flights at:

    Outbound BFS -> GLA: £15 (£8.40 + £6.60 TAX)

    Inbound GLA -> BFS: £6.40 (£13 + £6.60 TAX)

I think it was a good deal

Under the £0 fare i am travelling to Edingburgh on 16th July with easyjet which i got in March for £13.20 which was just two £6.60 tax amounts! Not bad eh!!

Is there good spotting facilites at Glasgow on the airport and around it perhaps?

I really hope Stelios sticks with 737 but moves to the -900 series as it does carry alot of people also and would be keeping fleet commonality for engineer wise. I would say there would be a small increse in price if Stelios got a mixed fleet. Look at Ryan Air they have bought -800’s which carry more and havent had downturns in profit. There must be something in keeping fleet the same!

RE: Boeing-Sukhoi plan to develop new aircraft

Dont like the sound of that. This could turn out to be very very bad!

Currently Russia has taken away slots from airlines whichout Russian fleets fling to Russia right. Well the Government could create a bycot of Airbus by only letting the restrictionsgo if u have an all boeing and russian fleet!! WHat about the airbuses used by all airlines, pratically, execpt low cost airlines! easyJet wouldnt fly to russia!

And Boeing could get a bad name if this aircraft goes wrong!

Your right Keltic, all u need a is blue flashing lights!

At least that is one use for the planes if they fail!!!

    Neeeeeenawwwwwwwwwwwww nnnnneeeeeeeeennaaaaaawwwwwwww

Does anyone make flashing blue lights for aircraft as the only one i have seen was in a Naked Gun movie i think wehre they used an american fighter jet and put one of them blue lights that uses a cigarette lighter!

[updated:LAST EDITED ON 28-06-02 AT 02:51 PM (GMT)]A friend of our family has just got back from a trip to Emirates homeland. He didn’t find your service amazing but rather
bog-standard!!! He said most of the cabin crew were all right but some on the way out and back wouldnt exactly bother themselves to help passengers and on the way out while claiming baggae at Dubai a passenger, not the friend of the faimly, was complaining that Emirates had broken a two seater buggy for this two children when it was in the plane. He wasnt aparently being nasty or anything but the ground staff just walked away and ignored him!!!
