Well realistically I’m not expecting 100 plus F35s and nor do I want them. Far better that at this stage they get more than 40 or so, keep developing FCAS and talk to the US about what comes after the current F35 crop (as they have been).

The rumours of T1 and Tornado going at the same time would lead to an unsustainable situation in the Fast Jet fleet wouldn’t they ?

About FCAS, the contract is only one year long due to SDSR. And problems are already arising, like the use of USA classified technology from F-35 (i mean UK tech classified by the USA)

This would be the “mother of all miracles” if it ever sees the light of day. Is the 6,000 hour/40 year lifespan correct?

Bharat Karnad is a clown, self claimed PhD less “Professor” of a ghost entity. Article is full of inaccuracies, wrong facts, suppositions. In fact, the hardest part is to find an accurate whole sentence in his article.

Btw , even I know when Dassault delegation will be glying to India (very close) and MoD wouldn’t? What a joke!

Considering the amount of British Technology in Gripen, i’d be cautious with such an issue

It remind me the KCX. Airbus came with a project that was not even a tanker (see the MRTT that have to be designed entirely to become something with some Military use). With such a trend, the wall is just on the next corner for their aero Industry.

I’d avoid talking about KCX, a market stolen to the winner by a thieves administration…

GaN LTCC T/R modules are due to commence series production @ a facility (owned by the russkie maker of the World’s most capable IADS), by 2017. It appears they’re in a race with DARPA, the Europeans (thru lack of funding & political will) have been left behind.

So basically you are saying Russia offered something that do not exist yet… At least Europeans produce GaN modules actually flying… Who is late?

It says $59m is less than half. so most probably price is higher than $120m. and these are fly prices.

    (i) bold part : pure speculation.
(ii) you do not know how much india has already paid for ToT. Compare apples and oranges plz. If you want to talk about fly away cost of Rafale, they are perfectly known and publicly sourced on Sénat website.

After factoring all the rest, the cost is upwards of $160 mil.

Pure speculation, we do not know what is included. Btw, the original sentence of Parrikar is that if MMRCA was to fail, India wouldn’t be completely deprived and may order more MKI.

Well is there anything you describe that F35 wont have?

It still comes down to a belief that there will be a counter to stealth / low observable / whatever found that will result if a return of close in dog fights of old.

The reality is even if that occurs the winner in that case will be a unmanned fighter capable of 20g+ maneuverability. We have been at 9g limit caused by human pilot for decades now. The only reason planes haven’t pushed past 9g limit is because the human pilot mean doing so provides no benefit.

Sadly, some planes are regularly hitting 10.5g in demonstrations and are blocked to 11+g…
9g is nowhere to a limit. It depends on how fast you go from 0 to 9g, how long you have to endure gs etc.

Btw (google trad from http://www.demorgen.be/binnenland/f-35-torpedeert-budget-defensie-a2171078/ )

How much could turn the F-35 for Belgium, according to new Dutch figures. Our northern neighbors were indeed looking for new fighter planes, and chose 37 F-35’s. In a letter to Defence Minister Jeanine Hennis-Plasschaert to the parliament for more details about the purchase. The annual maintenance of the equipment amounts 283 million.

The synergy for PAK-FA/FGFA radar, EW & ESM systems is probably what the Russians plan for the ‘Super-30’ MLU. Along with domestic upgrades for Su-30SM, Su-35S and non-PLAAF ‘Flanker’ exports, the potential economies of scale for these upgrades are positively huge and make their current very expensive R&D programmes (thru to 2020), commercially viable.

Any additional follow-on order for the Su-30MKI would raise a smile in Moscow, and why not? I would highly doubt the Rafale T4 would be a match for the ‘Super-30’ – at least in A2A.

As an aside, Defence Minister Parrikar may have let slip the unit cost of Rafale T4: over $120m!!!!!!!!!!!!

    http://www.janes.com/article/47533/indian-defence-minister-admits-complications-in-rafale-talks

Ok lets say 120m… including ToT, training, facilities, initial spare parts etc. Check cost of other deals including 100% or so ToT…

you forgot a part of the article.

However French authorities insist otherwise. “Please read the RFP document yourself and see if there is any such clause,” a top French diplomat had said last month when asked about this.

    Read more at:
    http://economictimes.indiatimes.com/articleshow/45749681.cms?utm_source=contentofinterest&utm_medium=text&utm_campaign=cppst

As far a i was told, by various sources probably as good as econimic times ones, there was no such clause in ASQR. Indian govt is trying to add it because they don’t trust HAL (be it right or wrong, another debate)…

I would expect a much faster track tbh. (without any clue, but first time i say that, no?)
