Hehe one must understand that there are real politic pressures over Pilatus. For example i interviewed a PC21pilot à PAS13, and he quoted that PC21 could simulate GPS guidied bombs. This sentence was deleted by Pilatus commercials…

TBH, i’m far from being a F35 lover, but i think F3 standard will be implemented. When? i do not know. Integration of subcomponents is the most complicated part in a modern system (be it plane or another) and you need them to work properly. But they will manage.

But there are erroneous claims in the original article so…

You will have troubles discovering anything. Due to swiss constitution, Pilatus planes are not sensed to be armed (including for export), so they hate any comunication about that.

You are very welcome Thobbes. About 2020, yes and it can be worrying. On the other hand, F3R standard is coming in 2018. Persitent rumours (and press articles) talk about a MLU around 2025 and Rafale “NG” in 2030. I didnt quote them as it is still very nebulous (but for info, see AirFan magazine june 2013). But i really perceived at PAS13 a will from Dassault to engage a competition vs F35 in Canada (and i spent a bunch of time at Chalet Dassault, they tend to serve Champagne at 6 pm 😉 ). Future will tell us, till then lets have our usual little “wars” about our favourite planes (and hide we love other planes also).
    Friendly,

It wasn’t a sale tool, but a private discussion. As mentioned above, we have no ideas on ROEs…

    Lots of sense here ;).
Aereo, plz remember Spectra was recently upgraded before joint warrior, and probably used the.se upgrades. That will simply help defining a software upgrade for Captor M i guess. Then another Spectra or Praetorian upgrade etc. Cat and mouse game.
Afaik, still 60 AESA ordered, not delayed like airframes (but that is an excellent question i’ll try t dig!!!) RBE2 AESA is plug and play on F3 standard.
Like Captor M, PESA is still evoluting.
French pilots do quote RAF pilots capability to use high altitude to energize their weapons btw.
Agree on IR missing channel on OSF IT on the other hand a very powerful camera is fine for FF identification. OSF IR channel certainly wasnt the best, but wasnt as crappy as sometimes described. In fact operationals didnt use it a lot due to very long time consuming training. (quoting). In fact, CEAM pilots say it is already very complicated to fully redact employment procedures of “passive” fighting with MICA IR sensors (and imho we have a huge prob with sensors lifetime here). New IR channel will come later probably (as on indian Rafales).
We are all here aerotechs “Geeks”, and we tend to forget that operatinal procedures tend to take more time to implement then tech…

All in all we should be happy to have two (three in fact) top notch fighters in Europe.

PS. French pilots would like to have HMS. On the other hand, have a look ar JR Vianney article on Defesanet and passive targeting in six. Not sure DAS can do that. 😉

Neither am I ff1987, just quoting. @thobbes 26 aircraft would be completely unworkable. Rafale contract is still to deliver 11 aircrafts/year. If you read carefully at the iconography given by french MoD you will see “(4) Taking in account export orders”. It is also noticeable that 1 billion euros is spared “just in case” (not only for Rafale) and that it is stated that these projections can be changed in 2015. I am not afraid about Rafale production line as there is no plan “B” for France, and refitted Mirage 2000D and -5 (extended to 9000 hours lifetime, that may interest our indian friends) wont last forever. French state is more in export need then Dassault (which is as bad tbh). The orders werent cut, deliveries were delayed. But we also have to buy new attack submarines, new frigates, new armoured vehicles etc.
Dassault stated (unknown comment, dunno why it wasnt discussed) that indian Rafales were too different from french ones to be picked from french production line. Lets be optimistic, as for EF in Saudi Arabia 😉

From Air Fan magazine, quoting AF officer about Tiger Meet : “No present plane could match our endurance. When called into mission, we lasted 1.5 more times the F16 or F18.”

About cost/hour, it is a biased measure…. And absolutely public in cases of Rafale and Eurofighter. A correct measurement would be cost vs mission objective. For ex, a plane able to stay lets say 2 hours in the sky will cost much less then two planes with 1 hour autonomy, be it their lesser cost per/hour.
