I knew about EWPASS, not about GaN modules (anyway quite logic for new system).
GaN based? Good
F-15 needed a spectra like stuff ;))
I don’t think so. They should be the remaining of tranche 4. Probably F4.1
F4.2 should be tranche 5 (replacement of last M2K)
Wild guess
In theory, the gain will be as described above in the equation. But many other factors will enter into play.
The equation is ok as far as every modules are emitting/receiving. Which is about never the case. Every modules are usually up to receive, but not emitting.
Not so weird, sincerely. Some F-35 UK techs are forbidden for FCAS (contractually) and Fr will always want to keep a private network.
I haven’t seen the interview but how can he know how well APG-79 performed? If 2 radar made by the same company then i get his point but APG-79 is made by Raytheon rather than Thales
Because there are many exchange pilots on FA18 C/D. APG79 is the best known US AESA radar.
Those are for F4 standard still in development and introducing in 2023-2025 time frame from what i can remember
No. there are new GaAs smaller modules allowing easier cooling and faster signal treatment for RWR.
physical T/R modules count give around 1363 modules.
Another physical count on an internet photo?
Err.. the size of the antenna isn’t classified. And its entirely independent of the T/R density.
It is officially classified, sorry.
ut let’s imagine you have a 10 GHZ frequency , apply lambda/2 “rule” and you will find something very close to 1000 (that should tell you about the exat size)
And Thales specified several times they were dummies… AND that the number of moules was more or less 1000. But of course counting dots on internet photographies is more credible than Manufacturer’s specifications. Same for the 55cms value. The real value is classified so drop 55cms.
Spudman, you know how th e danish evaluation numbers were computed? Because it has been hotly discussed at the time that the original numbers were not at all oranges or appples, but both (german CPFH according to luftwaffe standards vs -35 numbers according to LM). And changing the number of airplanes due to a SUPPOSED lifetime is well … At best dubious.

So much for “Freedom of Speech”.. or that only a US thing now?
Because US militaries are allowed to talk about which type of stuff should be bought?
You’re wellcome. Same level arguments (and humour)
The F-35 can carry up to 10 1000lb LGBs (not likely to ever happen) without sacrificing any of it’s normal fuel load.
Not sre it will reach the end of the airstrip without bingo fuel like taht. Anw you are right. Basically EF is an interceptor and F-35 a bomb truck.
