Interesting to read who the backer was. I wonder if he fancies any of those Fulmars? The Swordfish looked a mess but the two or three Fulmars shown seemed to be in pretty good shape. Obviously the salt water will have done untold damage to them but maybe something can be saved from the wrecks to help make another Fulmar for somebody with sufficient will and finances.
You reverse. No you reverse. I’m not budging.
I think I am right in saying that an F15 shot down 2 Mig 29s over Serbia. Can’t remember if that was the the first war or the Kosovo conflict. Didn’t hear of any engagements in the recent Iraq invasion but there were several in the first Gulf war involving US aircraft and maybe the second as well.

Hi Moggy,
I remember the Javelin well, I sat in it’s cockpit when I was a kid and it was gate guard to Worcester Squash club where my parents used to play. It is now at the Yorkshire Air Museum. Before that, there was a Spitfire, which is now at a Scottish museum – East Fortune I think but not 100% sure. There is still an Air Cadets base (well, hut) there but they don’t have a toy to play with – shame.

Interesting topic. Every Monday I play football on the site of what is regarded as the world’s first municipal airport at Perdiswell in Worcester, which became RAF Perdiswell Hall in the war.
Today, the site is owned by the council and has a sports centre, golf course and endless football pitches. The only possible evidence of it’s history is a concrete base in the car park, which may have been an airfield building and a perimeter track like concrete path around the edge of the car park. Apart from the total flatness of the site (very boring golf course) the only other clue is a small memorial sign in the sports centre reception, telling it’s story.
I have never been able to find anything else to add to the information on this sign about the history of the airfield. Briefly, it was the headquarters of fighter command in the West Midlands and Tiger Moths and Fairey Battles were flown from the airfield. The King kept his aircraft there during the war and the site became a POW camp. Also, some pioneering long haul flights were made from the airfield pre-war.
Can anyone add any more info.
Thanks
Stuart
As far as I can tell, the only major sections of this aircraft that are not genuine Halifax or equivalent (Hastings etc) or new built to original spec largely by the original manufacturers (well, sort of – BAE) are the cockpit and the undercarriage. I’m sure the cockpit incorporates thousands of real bits and bobs but if they were to find an original cockpit or get BAE to build one (like the tail section), then all the arguments about this aircraft being a real Halifax or a replica would cease.
I went to the YAM two years ago – it is an awesome site.

This is such terrible news. Steve was the only forumite that I spotted at Legends having recognised him from various photos posted on here. I didn’t introduce myself and really regret that now.
My thoughts are with his family and friends.

Nice pictures, looks like a great show despite the weather. What is the aircraft in front of the three Harvards in post 14? Looks like a single seat Harvard with a high back.
Thanks

Stewart, I think asking if the Gauntlet will be at legends is a serious question! It would certainly be very welcome and feasible considering that we have had visting aircraft from Russia, USA, Sweden, most of Europe etc. One day….. perhaps???? Would be nice. Next year????

Extra blue lights fitted underneath the fuselage and on the windscreen wipers.
The ‘kicking bass’ might prevent it from operating at some airports for noise polution reasons though – just like concorde. Mnd you, it probably wouldn’t go far – preferring to do low and slow passes down the high street on Saturday night or performing tight turns over Sainsbury’s car park. Not sure how they would get through McDonald’s drive-thru in it though. 😀

What a nice job they’ve made of the conversion. I mean, errrr, you can’t do that to a historic control tower!

Would be nice to see the Catalina in it’s new colours. Also, what no Skyraiders? 😮

We had a thread on this topic a while back. There are a few towers used as homes. The tower at the old RAF Honeybourne in Worcestershire is one quite close to where I live.

Just in time for legends? Would be nice, I’d love to see this aircraft fly.

Thanks Pen Pusher. Anybody know which Boeing B17 that is?
So the stars of the show are the SAAB B17 and the Hawk 75 according to the list. Thing is, TFC usually try to keep a surprise or two up their sleeve, I wonder if there is anything else planned. Better keep an eye out for containers at Duxford folks.
