some small updates concerning the Corsair

the Corsair is now in the shop… some work at the intakes

… and some work at the cowlring and cowling

Matthias, can you please let us know if the ‘new’ TF-51D is now arrived to Bremgarten?

Oh yes, the TF-project arrived on Monday ! I will post some pictures later next week …. stunning project !

😀 okay , thats the newest Spitfire project ….

The MeierMotors projects (as I know) :
- Focke Wulf Fw190 A8/N WkNr980554 (Ex G-FWAB)
- Focke Wulf Fw190 A8/N WkNr990013 (Ex F-AZZJ)
- Focke Wulf D9 (Flugwerk) powered with a Jumo213 perhaps arriving this year
- Buchon project , HA-1112 M1L WerkNummer 133 / C.4K-64, Reg.: N109FF, on the bench
- North American TF-51 project, arriving next week
- Supermarine Spitfire MJ772, arriving December
- Yakovlev Yak-3 D-FLUG, nearly finished
- Yakovlev Yak-3 D-FLAK, overhaul and repaint, nearly finished
- Chance Vought Corsair repaint, nearly finished
….. and of course some maintenance jobs ….. Yes there is something going on in South Germany at MeierMotors

Spitfire VS509 , MJ772

The newest project is shipped and we await the fighter in December 2010. It will be rebuild as the doubleseater/doublesteering as it was in the 50ties. As you might know MJ772 was converted to a Spitfire Trainer by Vickers Armstrong Ltd. in 1950; Vickers had a contract from the Irish Air Corps for two-seat Spitfire Trainers and MJ772 was one of those converted fighters. Private owner, Germany.

… let me say it in other words … Steven was responsible for the history research , especially the colours, stencils and so on…. sometimes its quiet complicated here :diablo: I have to pay attention 😉

Yes for sure ! Correct cowl, correct position of the exhausts but no wingtip radome. We have some pictures where you can see the bird without (!!) wingtip radome, so everything is perfect. I cant wait the rollout on Friday …

the Flying Nightmare

Steve Atkin, warbird colour services, was “alarmed” to research the paint and stencilwork. Hey Steven, it was really a big big pleasure to work with you ! …. and he made really a perfect job

Today I met Steven at the paint shop and we discussed a bit 😉 and what should I say ….. wow

“naked Lady” 17th September 2010

good to see the place where the deicing-system was attached. As you might know, the -NL was the -N with deicing equipement

At this stage, the owner wanted to paint the bird in “glossy sea blue”, the color was already ordered. Rob Mears, a Corsair connaisseur in the United States sent me the history cards of #124541 via email and told me the whole story. The Corsair is possibly the last of 15 “Flying Nightmares”. I was impressed and told the story of that particular bird to the owner. What should I say, he was impressed and said “Okay, lets paint her black” 😀

August 2010 time to make a big checkup. The owner gave MeierMotors the order to maintain the plane and wash all the colors off. As you know the Corsair is really a big single engine !

Washing off the paint will show possible damages at the airframe, so its really the best way to check the plane and its condition.

some bodywork…. the main hatch of the fuselage was damaged and was rebuilt by the MeierMotors team

The fighter was displayed 2010 at the airshow “100 ans Aeronavale” at Hyères and the “Flying Legends” airshow at Duxford.
