The “Queen of hearts”
engine ……. old one in red and the revised one

revised and newly painted wing

marriage August 2018

wheeeeeeeew ….. the last post more than 2 years ago …..
Well I still exist, the shop also. Tons of things to do, but time for some updates….. well where should I begin. Lets talk about the newest projects in the shop.
North American P-51 Mustang “Queen of Hearts”
The Queen was purchchased bei Achim Meier, CEO of the MeierMotors Company and head of MeierMotors-Aircraftsales, for a German customer. The Queen was based in South Africa. The things do to are the normal program : checking all wirings and hoses, change if needed, new revised engine, new paint and a complete deep check. The “small program”
South Africa

June 2018 – the paint is washed off with corrosives, checking the skin

the wing in original condition

July 2018 – the fuselage is polished

lets make some noise !
Messerschmitt Bf109 G-12 – some impressions

weight and balance

well beauty or not – its a unique plane. The Messerschmitt Bf109 G-12 D-FMGZ had her roll-out end of May 2016 after deep restoration and conversion. The trainer-plane (sounds funny dealing with a one-o-nine) is powered by a Volvo licence buildt DB605. A wonderful manufactured engine, overhauled by Vintage V12´s. It is quite interesting to see, what a difference wartime production vs post-war production makes. The Volvo is very fine manufactured, maybe the best DB605 you can get

EKW C-3603 D-FRBI undergoing a small service – preparing for the airshow season

Yakovlev Yak-3 D-FYGJ
small service at the wonderful Yakovlev Yak-3 D-FYGJ – at the end the heads and bans were revised by engine partner Vintage V12´s

Chance Vought F4U-5NL Corsair D-FCOR
The “Flying Nightmare” in the Hangar2 of MaxAlphaAviation – living history, everytime a special moment when I meet that huge combat aircraft

The North American P-51D D-FPSI got a new livery and is sold to a new private owner. She will stay at EDTG *hurray

Matthias, a question about the Buchon conversions. When they get converted to 109, do they get a different tail? I read somewhere the angle of the tail is different between the two due to the different engine setup?
it depends – there are existing different tailsections, thats right. These different shaped tailsections are reducing the “torque” aerodynamically. So the shaped rudder reduces the sliding of the plane at travelspeed, so no trimrudder is needed. But at first the Buchons were powered with Hispano engines. Those engines are turning the other way round than DB605 or Packard Merlin. Will say “wrong” tail means more work at the rudder on travel speed. Not really dangerous, but slightly uncomfortable. When you are doing a perfect restoration, its better to build up a new tailsection than using the “wrong” one. Btw. the basis of that conversion was equipped with the Hispano rudderpost.
I talked to Walter Eichhorn after first flight of the Kindsvater-Buchon over EDTG wether he had a “problem” with the “wrong” rudderpost. He said “if you can fly a Buchon its no problem, its slightly different at the starting run and at travel speed, buts its not really a problem”

a lot of detailwork left …… I love my red beauty and hope for the first runs soon

Messerschmitt Bf109 G-12 – paintjob done
fresh out of the paintshop – nice trainer aircraft

Dh.104 Dove “D-INKA”
the beauty gets a small service for the upcoming airshow-season April 2016

Fiat G.59-B4 MM.53772
One of the new pojects in the shop. The Fiat G.59 was delivered from Australia to a German owner nearby the airfield. The G.59 is well known and was restored at Saunders Aeronautics 1984-1987. Later it flew in Australia as “Ciao Bella” coded VH-LIZ with look-alike -WW2 livery and later a single seater. The beauty will be restored back to the livery the Italien Airforce flew with. Really a beautiful aircraft, but some work to do

Merlin engine – italien service with FIAT …… maybe a mechanic from Maranello helped 😀 ….. hope so

fresh painted wing. Ralf is painting the whole thing panel for panel to get a perfect surface without different shades. It works, but a lot of work

wing underside – pretty good shape

the team washed away the old paint with corrosives – and then they used their muscles

after that the fuselage was wrapped to avoid damage – time for the complete new electrical system/wiring

last Friday the underseide of the wing was painted in the new livery
