Messerschmitt Bf109 G “Doppelwinkel” FighterFactory
Okay, you want some Messerschmitt stuff, you get some 😉 these days another milestone happened. The MeierMotors team installed the freshly restored DB605 into the airframe. Mike Nixon did really a fantastic job. Of course not finished yet, some work left and Mike Nixon will support the team end of January with final works. After that they will fire up the engine the first time in that beautiful project. Some time left and the “Double Chevron” will see the chequered flag.

look at that really fragile engine mount … the engine weighs about 2000 pounds ! Something that fascinates me all the time. Think about the tourque and that brutal power ….. just some thin metal tubes, a few screws, connected that monster to that fragilie and slender fuselage

power insignia

Great stuff, Matthias! I do love that whining sound before the engine starts, too.
yes, thats typical Mercedes Benz DB605. Its the socalled “Schwungradanlasser”, will say the starter of the engine. The sound you hear is the flywheel coupling
Wonder what the German is for ‘I’m drooling here!’ Just beautiful work!
drooling means in German “sabbern” and “drooling” is the absolute right term, thats exact the thing that happens when this monster is running

and December 2014, back in the shop

well friends and fans, now you are also updated with that project. The next steps will be, finishing the sheet metal work and some work with the engine. There are some troubles to solve. Mike Nixon of Vintage V12´s will be in the shop end of january to have a look at the engine. But like the Yagen-project, I think the one-o-nine will be airborne soon.
Goosbumps….. imagine two of those DB605 thoroughbreds in close formation hammering low level over the airfield ….. lets call it aviationporn :dev2:
so stay tuned, there is something going on in Southern Germany

November 2014, final sheet metal works
Detailshots for those warbird lovers 😀

…. and those wing-fuselage fairings. Complicated shape, again a lot of measuring and detail work. In fact, every single part is handmade, there a no templates or tools to get the exact shape. The original tools are of course lost. So the sheetmetal team is using a sparepart as pattern, knowing that no part is similar to the other. They use that pattern only for a rough measuring.

and then hard work with the good old “english well”

some hours later

again again again until the right shape is hit – thats the reason why restoration projects of rare aircraft is so time consuming

now the fighter looks like a one-o-nine but still a lot of work has to be done – of course MeierMotors is using original plans to reconstruct all those bits and things to get rid of those nonconformances. How should I say … building up a one-o-nine in Germany is not only restoring a historic aircraft, it is working on a legend, an ikon of german art of engineering, will say a quite special thing for the shop. And so everything has to be as perfect a possible.

the socalled “Beule” (bulge), a characteristic part of that Gustav-version. Not so easy to reconstruct

Messerschmitt shape

pretty good to see from this angle – wingstructure of the FighterFactory one-o-nine. The former Buchon-wing is having a double spar, to carry the high load of those Hispano cannons. rare insights. Of course the outer shape is pure Bf109G

One of those Messerschmitt in the shop is the socalled “Black 8”. This fighter belongs to the Hangar10 collection based on the island Usedom / Northern Germany. The “Black8” is quite well known and was sold from Austria. Mr. Rinner built up the Messerschmitt, using a fuselage from Hartmair production. The wings were manufactured in eastern Europe. Hangar 10 purchased the project and brought it to MeierMotors to complete the work. It was planned to get the one-o-nine into the air in 2014, but there is a lot of work to be done. The main job was/is to check the airframe and build up the upper engine cowling and fairings. The aim is of course the german registration.
End of 2013 the fuselage was delivered to the shop

August 2014 – work is going on with the cowling. Some reconstruction were made to get the right shape

Hawker SeaFury ES3613 – D-CACE
… and the last on SeaFury pictures for today …. the outer wings are painted. Ralf is painting single patterns to get a perfect and homogenous surface. A lot of extra work but its worth

and of course lots of detail work – eyecandy

no you are updated and bored enough with the SeaFury project, lets turn to the boring german projects, lets talk about Messerschmitt one-o-nine

without words

some work left

Felix at work

in November, Skycraft propellers delivered the huge 5-blader to the shop. Hard work for Jamie Pluck & Andrew Butcher. The Skycraft-boys did a really fantastic job !

the team fltr Jamie Pluck, Andrew Butcher and the responsible mechanic for the SeaFury project Felix Ohlhoff

after that, we had some fun and some beers in the old city of Freiburg  ….. no, no pictures of that event ….. I promised :dev2:
One of the major projects is of course the stunning SeaFury. The shop ist doing there a “better-than-new” restoration. A lot of work, but at the end, it will be a piece of art. The Bristol is undergoing restoration an the radial shop with Mike Nixon (of course).
Every single part is cleaned, checked, restored or remanufactured. Every single part ……

and some paperwork …… a lot of paperwork. Here Aliena with a part of the SeaFury paperwork

original and very important paperwork – registration in Germany in the fiftees

really a big ship

WOWWWWW – thank you very much for your kind words, I am really deep impressed.
Yagens Messerschmitt Bf109 project is going to hit the home stretch. These days Mike Nixon´s Vintage V12´s delivered the freshly revised Mercedes Benz DB605 engine. What a mighty piece of iron. The engine did, before shipping, 11 runs with 8,5hours without any problems. Mike Nixon did an absolute perfect job on that engine.

well …….. back on deck
nearly one year without any updates on that fantastic forum. I am really sorry for that, but new job in the bankoffice, a lot of work with new homepages, facebook and of course some spare time with the family. But as promised in Facebook, back again on deck
Well, 2014 was a very busy year in the MeierMotors shop. Big projects and of course a lot of fun. Not so many BBQ as in 2013 and no flying action for the webmaster with warbirds. Live´s hard. Where should I begin. Lets make a short inventory…….

Lovely photos and updates but i have to ask why does the mechanic go up with the pilot on a first restoration flight.I would’ve thought for safety’s sake the fewer on board if problems do arise the better.
Well, it was a special request from Crew Chief Oleg, who is mechanic, but also a pilot. He did also the 1st flight in TF-51 “Little ITE” D-FUNN.
Meier Motors takes whenever possible the guys up with the planes they worked on.
