If you are talking about the rectangular “cutout” on lower left hand side front, then that is where the control pedestal shroud /support fits.Inside of which is a mass of chains driving a couple of countershafts mounted beneath the pilots floor. Those countershafts and an even great mass of chains sprockets etc extend over the front middle section of the main floor ,heading in a generally rearwise direction.Controling things like the engines [4 off],propellers [4 off] etc etc.The pilots floor protrudes approximately a foot into the bomb aimers section, seen on the right hand side front of the illustration.Mounted approx center front of the pilots floor is the stop for the control column, since there was nothing else that needed support or had to be fitted to that part of the pilots floor why bother making it nice and square? Which would only serve to add wheight and cost more manufacturing time?
Great work Tony.Remember how I came to make the center section Adlam is now punting????Guess the shipping from Canada means I will not be building a second one, hehehe
Is this a serious question?????
Perhaps “Creaking door” might like to try reading a book, about WORLD WAR TWO [a book is a pile of individual paper pages with lots of words drawn on them, although there are books on the subject with lots of pictures in them which might be easier to start with]
His statements show not only a stunning lack of knowledge ,but are also grossly insulting to the thousands who made the ultimate sacrifice prior to the outbreak of the war.Any understanding of twentieth century history has obviously passed right over his head.
Thank you all for the kind words.I wonder if might ask again for a bit of help?? I am still looking for information [a photo would be fantastic] about the mounting blocks used to hold the 1155/1154 units to the support panel.I have made up the support brackets .Thanks in advance
cockpit and control column
Been some progress, things are fitting together. The control column and wheel are fabricated, cutting the center splines was fun.Now I just need to work out how to get them in
If the thread on the “cable adjuster”is threaded 5/16 B.S.F. then I have just made two of them ….for the chain/cable adjustment in the pilots control column
More progress
Well at last the pilots floor is off my bench…….and now the project is getting biggerrrrrrrrr
Thanks for the comments, hope no one minds if answer the latest questions in just one message. So here goes…..
Peter ..my mistake yes the undercart lever guard.
Wyvanrfan…..The only original bits used in the pilots floor assembly are the trim wheel ,electric junction boxes ,oxygen outlet and the deicer pump.Everything else has been fabricated using Avro drawings, backed up with dimensions etc from real examples.Iwas lucky enough to “work” with the team at Downsview [Toronto here in Canada] Which gave me access to a real stripped airframe the now boxed up FM104.Part of my contribution was a repro pilots seat, control wheel and turret parts. Here in Canada B.A.,B.S.F.and WHITWORTH threads are unknown.
When the floor unit is finally finished ,the project will start to get bigger.
Thanks Peter, and a bigger thanks for your help……..cover/support for the bomb release is in hand using your pics etc
What a lot of bits……..
At last assembly begins……
The Land-Rover in the picture is an 80 inch model, semaphore indicators were a factory option,as were the middle and passengers seats.
Having the courage……
A set of brackets to hold the pilots floor cover plates in place[ the green ones],the others are rejected parts now safely in the scrap bin.Having the courage to admit that an hours work is no good is vital to any build. There are some amazing build projects being shared here, and they all have a scrap bin somewhere.I hope this helps the first timers who are trying to get a dream project off the ground.

A good day……
At last a chance to see if and how the bits fit…..And the beginnings of the short formers
The devil is in the detail……
The observers foot rest assembly and de icer pump…..more to bolt onto the floor, and yes I know the screws are wrong in the decier mounting.Finding slotted woods screws here in Canada is a problem, one that will take a little more research
