    Google pic is wrong

The google pic is a two inch mortar bomb,Not the two kilo electron bodied incendiary [of which there were several types….the most dangerous ones had/has a penthrite wax “window breaker bang” under the tin tail which cannot been seen from outside unless the identification numbers can still be read..these numbers are stamped into the flat base end]

Thats not to say the bombs at the bottom of the garden are not British issued mortar bombs…many duds were left on ranges.

    Latest work

A few of the “sub panels” for the bomb aimers section…..made a change from engraving decal plates.Construction of the frame jig can now start, and the build begins to get bigger and more serious

Forgot one detail about the plates in my picture…..the lower left hand “fuel” plates were laser cut….after much arm twisting the laser operator agreed to turn the wick up so we got a deeper cut

    Engraving

Richard…..the machine has a nice ironic twist for my project. It is a pantographic rotary engraving machine made by Taylor-Hobson, a model “c”.Hand opperated using movable master “type”.
Here is the ironic twist , my machine has two brass plates fitted to it,one has numbers stamped in to it which were the Ministry of Supply [MoS] machine census number ,the other is an Air Ministry plate with the machine log number and a date of acceptance …the date? 05/42.

A third alloy plate bears the factory name and machine number…….oh the factory??? WOODFORD.

I do not think you can get more authentic than that.

Mike, your guess is sort of correct….explaining this is hard so here we go..Frame “k” has the angled plate fixed to its top edge as you show ,in the middle and normal to the frame ring is a ertical channel support. This support is fixed at its top front face to the “longeron [the hooped angle that runs around the turret deck and finaly ends at frame”e” angle doubler]

Its aft face fits to the turret bowl lower angled face
The shell plating is the riveted over the front face as you can see in the pictures

I have just read this back and it seems to make sense to me

Lovely work Mike and I must pay tribute to some of the drawings /notes youve sent me…..now an evil question for you, this might keep you up a bit later at night…

How many hours did it take you to “constuct”frame J in your computer???

if its more than ten hours [and I hope this depresses you] then you could have made the real bit.
I will admit that your idea keeping/flying a full sized Lancaster housed in a computer has advantages for a start it would save me building a very big shed ,and the damage being done to my hearing after my wife discovered just how big this project is.

    once again great work
