Just a thought. You guys who are in the know don’t make life easy for a novice. I’ve read all through this thread but I’ve no idea what I might see if I was to go to Coventry tomorrow. Doesn’t the BBMF have six Merlins? If so, I see two thirds of them over here quite often. Now THAT would be something to see at Deenethorpe!

Wonderful picture – I’ll miss her! The first interesting thing I’ve seen at Deenethorpe since they demolished the control tower about 10 years ago. There are planning applications posted at the airfield to divert the public bridleway (presumably away from the perimeter road which it now uses). Perhaps that’s a prelude to making the airfield more secure. Hope so – I’d love to see some more activity there.

Here’s one shot taken today. sorry I’m not too hot at this new technology stuff – the other picture files are too big and I’m still learning how to reduce them.

If the rain stays off I’ll pop up there with a digital canera this afternoon. There’s nowhere to park nearby on the A427 and its quite a walk from the lay-by near the memorial, so there’s plenty of opportunity to get wet! As far as I know there’s no infrastructure apart from a couple of portacabins and a small modern hangar (for light aircraft?). Really don’t know what the score is with landing a big aircraft like a DC-6 there. I guess the local populace won’t complain if its not landing and taking off frequently.
I’d like to have it in MY backyard, but most folk…..

Yes, it’s really prominent from the road, as there are only small buildings on the site now. I’m a railfan not an aviation enthusiast – but I remember the DC ‘Seven Seas’ from my days living near Heathrow as a kid. I couldn’t quite believe what I thought I was seeing. I got a few photos of G-SIXC yesterday as a public bridleway goes round the arfield on the old perimeter road. Pity they demolished the old control tower a few years ago.
