Andy,
this are the result of my research too.
The date of the crash is sure, it was exact the 03.05.1945. I have spoken with the time witness later again and ask him about the date.
On this date crashed a lot of other Typhoons and some Tempest. No one in the near of this area, at once the a/c of JA Brown. The last seen of him in North East direction and than hit by flak – I think this is the fighter where I am looking for. No MACR / KU exist.
I have no information about raids over Kiel or Schleswig-Holstein this day from the USAF…
The witness told me too, three or four fighter attacked the train. After the crash of one of him, the other fighter turnt over the crashsite for any minutes before flown away.
Maybe somebody have informations about the 181. sqdn and a report of this crash ??
Nils
yesterday I received a new call from the woman who saved the pilot in Kiel-Wellsee.
She told me some new details – maybe this details help us to find the right aircraft and the crew !?
1. The pilot was married, on his right small finger he carried his ring. (he told her, his wife is waiting at the airfield for him)
2. The flight this day against Kiel was his first raid.
3. His rank was Lieutenant (?)
4. His parachute was yellow
5. The date of crash was in the last 8 days of the war
6. The woman brought him to the british units, at the railway-station of Kiel. The british soldier laughed, as she has told, she have hidden a british pilot at home.
I have a other crash of Mosquito in the last days of the war in Kiel;
13.04.1945
NT 494 VY-N, 85.Sqdn.
Flight Lieutenant H.B. Thomas was at first MIA
Flying Officer C.B. Hamilton was killed.

Thanks,
yes, that is what I mean.
Was this ammunition only used in the Lancaster, I mean in Bomber? Do you know at what version and year?
It was found in Germany a propeller of a crashed aircraft. It is possible that was a Lancaster, but the people found some .50 BMG ammunition in the crashsite…
sorry, when I have write a wrong typ of aircraft.
I have found the picture in the last night, maybe I was tired…
Adrian,
the aircraft do you mean, must be the Do-17Z U5+L, Pilot Hans-Jürgen Brandenburg. 1 KIA (Brandenburg) 3 MIA
Three aircraft of this Kampfgeschwader was shot down this date.
It is right what Geoff have written. When you have some unknown details of a crash, please give the pictures and other papers the RAFA or an other organisation.
Tomorrow I drive to Mr. Möllenbrok and will tell him the possible news. Maybe he know more to clear some questions. He is very interesting on all details of crashed aircraft of his unit !
Nils
