Great!! Now I’ve got your attention Glen, how about another rarity that never goes anywhere – the long-legged Jet Provost T.1, G-AOBU/’XD693′, from your mates at Kennet Aviation,North Weald. I’ve asked you to try to get this to Kemble many times but all we see are the same JP T3/4s every time!
Maybe next year when the Classic Jet Show returns, run out of budget this year.
Hunters at Kemble will include WV318, WV372, XL600 (G-VETA), Miss Demeanour, Papyrus and the rare T68 G-HVIP all airworthy but will not necessarily all fly on the day as I have to talk to the owners first.
Albert
It will be at kemble on June 20th
Just seen the thread. Fantastic. One of the highlights of the birthday show.
As it’s a birthday bash for the Reds are there going to be other aerobatic team coloured aircraft attending, even for the static e.g Patrioulle Suisse Hunter?
I wish we could but our finances are limited. Perhaps BH at HHA could get in touch and see what we can work out?
We have got Yellowjacks Gnat, Black Arrows Hunter in the flying display and hopefully the Red Pelicans and Poachers JP’s plus a Red Arrows Gnat on static.
Keep your eyes open for the next update to the Kemble Show………………….Shades of 2001……………you won’t be dissapointed.
“SABRINAS”
I will some one else have the pleasure of enlighten you to this one, for all I know you could be of tender years!!!!!!!!!
That may well be the case but whatever the implications and rulings on this I think we can safely say that a SA Lightning flying in the UK is a bit of a dead duck as no-one would be able to afford ferry it uphill all the way from Cape Town anyway????????????
“The whole saga of “will the CAA allow a Lightning to fly in the UK” will run forever, but if anyone could turn back time and change the accident rate, then we maybe in with a chance.”
Very true Buccsociety, but if someone has the appropriate funds, one of the Lightnings form South Africa could fly in the UK the same as any other foreign registered aircraft could. But it would take a huge financial effort to get it here and where would any income come from?
As I have said on more that one occasion on this forum. The CAA have NEVER said no to a Bucc flying. The stumbling block is the fact that a civilian company has yet to put together a package to show the CAA that the aircraft can be flown safely in UK skies. And until they receive one you will never see a Bucc flying in the UK.
Delta Jets were VERY close to gaining this approval through working closely with the CAA until Mr Pringle came along with an offer they, as a commercial organisation, could not refuse. Not forgetting that they did a lot of work with XW986 to get it ready for the ferry flight to SA, with regular test flight from Kemble.
I believe that there are a couple of companies going down a similar path to what DJ did and good luck to them. Lets hope that they can carry on this great work to get a british registered Bucc into the air again.
15 Hunters at Kemble was magical and will probably never be repeated …………………..but I might be more than a little biased…….DB/Les??
Gnats
XS102 / XR991 is still very much alive and well here at Kemble and still retains the yellowjack livery that Dave Gilmour chose following its restoration in the 1980’s. Co-incidentally the aircraft was test flown and painted in that scheme by the surface finish section at Kemble whilst the airfield was still known as 5MU.
A good book to read about Gnats is “Folland Gant – Sabre Slayer and Red Arrow” by Victor Bingham it gives all the development history and a list of all the serials plus a whole chapter is devoted to all the airworthy ones. It is only a couple of years old and the info is still quite current in most cases.
Just to keep you up to date the flying display at Kemble tomorrow will feature:
Hunter x2
Strikemaster
Canberra
Jet Provost
Vampire
Miss Demeanour
The Sea Vixen will be a flypast only as it is en-route back to Bournemouth. The Vampire is WZ507 and as far as I know has not featured in any “flying” display this year only as a static item. The Jet Provost display will also be the debut flying display for the Gower Jets’ aircraft in “The Poachers” markings. Along with the arrivals there are a few jet sorties planned for the morning featuring aircraft that are not in the flying display.
Just heard that the Sea Vixen will be making an appearance.
Do not know what deal JB has struck with RIAT but last year he wanted an extreme amount of cash just to pull the a/c out of the hangar for a static display! So I did not even bother to approach him this time.
I agree with most, that it is a crying shame that the a/c is kept hidden away, apart from once every three months when he flies it just to keep it serviceable. It has been for sale for around 5 years now, but no one has come up with a deal yet to take her on.
I would be first in the queue to see it in the flying display at Kemble.
Sea Fury flying today
Anyone in the Kemble area would have seen this a/c flying today. It is due to be part of the 100yrs of Flight Exhibition at RIAT so at least some more people will get to see this rare bird.
The Sea Hawks appearence at Kemble was always going to be a tight call, but I have received no notification from the RNHF to say that it will not show up, so as far as I am concerned the a/c will participate until someone tells me otherwise.
