Did Stukas have the range to attack central London from France?
Rod.
Then there is this disgraceful sensationalism from the Mail. Totaly taking the emphasis away from the human tragedy of the loss of life.
Rod.
P9426 was a PR111 type C converted from an F Mk1.
Famously took off with a fitter on the tail and was damaged on landing 21/11/1940.
Note also the plain coloured PR(?) Spitfire in the background on the first picture.

Bizarre doesn’t cover it.
At one time during an ad break in “A ‘plane is born” (another good series by the way) they ran the promo saying it was on “tonight at 9” followed by a list of programmes on “later tonight” which did not include it!
Right hands, left hands and lack of familiarity come to mind.
I do hope the series is as good as the promo or else we are going to be very disapointed. I love that guy’s vocal version of a big radial starting up.
Rod
Quest keep advertising on screen that this as starting tonight even though both the EPG on my PVR and their website say it starts next Thusday (22nd).
Setting it to record just in case.
Rod.
First of all, apologies to the OP for the thread drift.
Thanks MarkG. At least my eyes were not at fault! There is another shot from the three quarters rear at 0:14.32 that shows it quite clearly.
I just hadn’t realised that those early radomes were made of clear material, presumably PMMA. Must have been quite a moulding job to get right.
I also managed to get hold of a copy of the Flypast special and there is actually a picture of an NF36 on page 37 with the same unpainted nose and a mention that the NF38 radomes were often left unpainted. Would it be an NF38 in 1948? It was the last mark made. Shame that you cannot make out the serial on the film.
Only goes to show that you can learn something new every day.

In the second clip, as they pan down the line of parked aircraft. Are my eyes deceiving me, or does the Mosquito have more than the normal amount of nose glazing?

Went out to my car this morning to find some lowlife has helped himself to all 4 wheel disks. He’ll only get a couple of quid for them on fleabay but it’ll cost me a small fortune to replace them if I want pukka original spec. 😡

Continuity error
Sorry to resurrect this zombie, but this series now being shown on Quest.
I watched it last night and although I loved the shots of Just Jane, I was flabberghasted to see Pathfinder Mossies taking off and turning into 4 Meteors! They had even overdubbed the Mosquito soundtrack over, what if I am not mistaken, was the title shot from the old BBC series “War In The Air”.
Also noted that stock shot of Manchesters when talking about Lancasters.
Being repeated tonght if you missed it.
Perhaps he should keep up the day job! 😉
Rod
Just like ‘Ice Road Truckers’ only in the air!
Sounds like a must see (and listen!) with that line up.
I like Quest. Especially shows like American Hotrod, particularly when they do proper metal work, and the ‘Birth of a …’ series where the guy built a helicopter, a light aircraft, an AC Cobra replica and some other stuff.
Rod
Pardon me if I am being a bit thick here.
If an aircraft’s movement form records an entry for no1 CRU, does that mean that it actually went to Cowley, or could it have been fixed somewhere else as dictated by no1 CRU?
Alternatively, would the record show the actual location?
Rod
Re my previous post:-
I found this on the British Pathe site.

I note that both long and short nose Blemheims appear at different times in the film. Assuming that they weren’t just edited in, would these have been the bombers and then the fighters that flew cover? No sign of the Hampdens though (pity).
I see that ‘Lost Bombers’ shows the details of the 6 Blenheims and 2 Hampden bombers that were lost.
Does anybody know the details of the 2 Blenheim fighters and 2 Beaufighters that went down?
My father was in one of the destroyers. It was factory fresh and the paint was barely dry. He had only been with the ship for 3 weeks and was on his first posting. Quite a baptism of fire!
Rod.
My father told me they had a nice cruise around Vaagsfiord just after Christmas 1941 (in L31). The Germans didn’t like it though and they got attacked by Heinkels on the way home.
I since found out that about 35 RAF guys paid the price for they ‘day out’. Hampdens and Blenheims, I think.
I don’t know if there is anything there to see now though.
