    Poor old aircraft

    Hi David
Thanks for your reply as regards the future of these “poor old aircraft” when I stated that the cockpits were “open” I meant that they were actually shut but had no covers and were “open” to the elements.
Nodoubt your band of people have done their best (which I applaud) to keep these aircraft from deteriorating further.
Having visited this area only occasionally, and not being a local I did not know that it was a museum.
Please accept my apology and I am more than pleased that they are not going for scrap.
    Well done

I will go for a Hawker Demon Mk11 – due to the deeper gunners cockpit.

As an ex Driving Examiner I can assure you that you can pass the Driving Test FIRST TIME if you try.
I have now been driving for 50 years without any accident, I held a Police Class 1 Licence and have always driven to that standard which has proved its worth.

Lancaster Mk.11 – the book “Aviation in Northamptonshire” by Michael Gibson and published by Northamptonshire Libraries, 27 Guildhall Road, Northampton NN1 1EF has some details of this aircraft which many were built at Sywell in Northamptonshire. A list of such aircraft is shown on Appendix 7 page 343. The makers of various parts for these aircraft are also listed. The sound of 4 x Bristol Hercules engines is very different to the Merlins. During the production period I lived quite close to Sywell and heard them on several occasions and were rather confused very young aircraft buffs at that time (what 4 radials in a Lanc).
Anyway this book is excellent in these details and I hope you are able to get access to it as I am sure it will help.
    Keep up the good work

Was it Churchill that stated “They started the wind now they must reap the whirlwind”

Other cities were treated the same as Dresden by the Germans throughout WW11.
Thank goodness this is all now history and I hope it will not get “windy” again.

Some people just cannot resist the temptation!

Anyway to return to topic – I think that the warbird world is not necassarily elitist but is widely seen as being so, with perhaps not enough being done to dispel this image.

😎 Mk V This is the answer in a nut shell. This is my experience.

    Hampden FD265 – P1336

I recently came across details of the crash of this aircraft from Malcolm Barrass on “Air of Authority” web site http://www.rafweb.org. He states that this Hampden aircraft was from No.106 Sqdn at Finningley and on the 25.05.1940 it collided with barrage balloon cables over Coventry (No.6 Balloon Centre – 916/917 Sqnd) and it crashed on a Sports Field in the city.
    The crew were : F/O J M D Irvine, Sgt. J R Collingham, and A/C1 S E Firth.

    Do keep up Dakota.

This thread is about leasing your aircraft to flying clubs. You seem to be selfishly keeping yours to yourself.

See you in Le Touquet next spring?

    Moggy

PS: Where do you fly yours? We have a group of modellers on our strip. Splendid chaps by and large.

    Hi Moggy,
The Lincolnshire Aeromodellers as we are called (other things at times) fly from a private grass airstrip situated in South Scale Lincolnshire the owner rents it out to us at a fee and we also keep his strip nicely mown. We do allow visitors to fly here with permission. 😎
