Sounds like the RAFM one. Was it’s engine run after it was painted and prepared for its permanently hangerage at Hendon?

Is the RFC base near stonehenge the same as Old Sarum airfield, used now for GA purposes?
The local press seems to have got a bit carried away in saying “modern fighter jets” will be in attendance, but they seem to confirm the Tiger Club Turbulents and a Spitfire, plus another classic aircraft, and a lot of military vehicles. That might be it, but as I’m round the corner i’m not intending to miss it..
The poster which is around in the local shops features the blue spitfire X1 (Peter Teichmann’s and based at North Weald?) and a Stearman.
I dont know if this helps

thats a lovely line up. I’m not far from saafend, it’ll be the season opener for me.
Do we have two 108s in the UK? I’m looking forward to that set piece very much!
Jay
That is a particularly beautiful example.
I love the lines of those early marks.

What happened to him? Did he survive the accident.
Big hole in knowledge…requires wikipedia

That gladiator looks lovely.
Are the wings at TFC too. Look forward to seeing that one in the air for sure!
The Airspace hangar looks good too.
Thanks for sharing

Do you have any photos?
Did the coastal patrol tigers retain their yellow training colourschemes and earth/dark green top surfaces?
I’m intrigued now after finding my post again!

I’m not an expert commentator but I cant help but feel sorry for the RNHF, they dont seem to have a lot of luck. What happened to W5856? she was only restored to fly a few years back wasnt she?
I guess its lack of money that prevents these restorations from progressing faster. They are a worthy cause indeed.
All the best to them. I take it were unlikely to see a swordfsh fly in 2007?

Wow, what a collection of airscraft.
How about some really old pics, maybe one of the mk XIXs in the early camoflage schemes?

The Vulcan looks more unusual perhaps-
To the man in the street, the Vulcan is a damn strange looking thing. I remember a freind’s mother telling me she saw one during her schooldays, and the sight of it haunted her-she didnt know what it was but still thought it might be bringing in the end of the world.
Its unique shape-I doubt she would have remembered it as clearly as she did had it been a Victor, pretty conventional looking for an aeroplane in comparison-I cannot imagine a victor having the same impact.
I cannot say from personal experience, alas I have never seen either type in flight….Yet.

oops sorry to resurrect such an old thread, just saw the dates. Linked here from another thread. Maybe i should have posted this in that.

Forgive me if this has already been asked, or if I’m showing my ignorance, but am I right in thinking from the photos that MH434 originally had full, original wingtips when based at Hornchurch, and that these were removed for Dutch use, and replaced when she was flown as a historic?
I had previously thought she’s spent her wartime service with clipped wingtips, possibly on the basis of something i read in an airshow programme, but may have misunderstood. The photo suggests her wingtips were original whilst at Hornchurch.
Jay
that would be the markXI you were thinking of DJ
You’re right. I apologise.
