The Javelin does have a distinct tailplane tho. The feature that she has remembered most is that it was a tailess delta.
Having reminded myself what a javelin looks like it wasnt one.

Javelin-Now there’s a thought
Fits the description better than anything else mentioned.
Or a Vulcan flying higher than she thought it was.

who’s storch is that?

Became USAF in 1948 when the naval army air forces merged (or possibly just the army one separated) to form a dedicated air force which is not part of one of the other services. I understand the navy did not want this to happen and as such still has a lot of its own aircraft.
U S Army Air Corps and US Army Air Force tho?
I dunno. Someone will tho.
What a thoroughly gritty and brilliant and disturbing documentary tho.

A lovely show. Nice photos mate. I hadn’t been to OW in years and whilst i was a little disappointed by the limited programme I really enjoyed the show.
That sea fury display was quite something wasnt it?

I do like Setters post tho. He has a very good point.

Personally I don’t see the problem. Maybe he was offended, but the Japanese lost a lot of people in this conflict, especially in the bombings of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. Dont they have as much right to be remembered as anyone else?
You could just as easily say a VJ day airshow was offensive to the japanese. What about all these aeroplanes flying around that look like the ones used to kill japanese people?
We should remember the casualties of war, not get self-congratulatory and jingoistic.
Just my [always controversial] 2ps worth.
And as i understand the women in the red cross uniforms were playing nurses, yes.

I;m not sure, Vulcan was what I initially thought, and its certainly nice, but she was sure it was smaller than that, describing it as “about the size of a harrier” although time and light do indeed play tricks, and a Vulcan is the most ‘triangular’ aircraft according to the description I was given. The loudness of it that she recalled also pointed in my mind to Vulcan. If there were Vulcans flying that day I would say it is most likely.
As it was a school day before the summer holidays i should imagine early june is likely. If the year is wrong then it is not by much, as this was during her time at secondary school.
SR71 is a very interesting possibility, tho. She seemed very clear that the aircraft was painted black, although they always look black, as you say.
Thankyou, everyone.

So what was this deleted thread about?
Can I ask, do you lot all know each other in real life?

assuming the most damaging hanger fires happen at night, when no-one is about, how does being flown occaisionally during the day protect the aircraft at all?
This discussion originates from the loss of Bf109 Red 7, so perhaps a better, and more disconcerting question would be “Is the Bf109 too dangerous a machine to be flown regularly?”

30% of non combat losses landing accidents? Is that high? How many did they bloody crash! Doesnt sound high to me but i have never examined these things, i would have imagine landing/takeoff accidents would represent the majority of non-combat losses, unless you call having a hanger load of them blown up a non-combat loss (or 20 or whatever)?
I heard something like 10% of the production run lost in landing accidents. Perhaps more believeable?

Hi
brings back the old debate ,
should old a/c & crews be risked ,
or should just replicas be flown.
cheers
Jerry
As a re-engined buchon that almost was a replica
replicas do not seem any safer, rmember the Ryan Monoplane at Coventry a year or 2 back…at least with the old things we can draw on experiences from “the first time round” in maintainance proceedure etc.
That said Bf109s do seem to have a ridiculous accident record. I am hesitant to use this term, but 30% and every one that’s been flown in europe in the last 10 years…
Not a good show.

Hope you are able to post a few pics of the London Flypast. The Met says you are going to enjoy blue skies, 28 degree sunshine with an 8 knot north easterly.
Have a good day.
Cheers mate. I dont have a Digital Camera but if i can get anything i will scan and post up.
