Hope you are able to post a few pics of the London Flypast. The Met says you are going to enjoy blue skies, 28 degree sunshine with an 8 knot north easterly.

    Have a good day.

Cheers mate. I dont have a Digital Camera but if i can get anything i will scan and post up.

Sad news indeed. But london has always been bombed, as a city we get over it pretty fast I think.

Maybe its not in the best possible taste to ask at this point but does anyone know whether or not the VE day flypast has been cancelled?

i’ve seen plenty of blitz and WWI trench warfare exhibitions which featured dummies as dead bodies. I’d imagine they are cheaper than real ones. As a kid i went on a school trip to a small museum (The Winston Churchill Museum?) and they had a blitz exhibition which featured dead dummies, and it brought home the death and destruction. Bombed out buildings are all well and good, but sometimes it is easy for the dead to slip from the forefront of the mind.

I think, and its just my 2ps worth that sometimes when people question the taste of these things, it is simply that to be reminded makes them uncomfortable, and it reminds them of a simple, unavoidable fact that people know but would rather they kept out of the forefront of their consciousness, saying something is in bad taste simply means it makes them feel uncomfortable. But imho being made to feel uncomfortable is sometimes necessary.

Depends on whether you want the information from people who know, or people whose interests take in modern military as well as historic. The war of independance did not take place between India and Pakistan so I’d imagine you would only get flamed for calling the F16 an F-16 or vice versa (lawn dart?).
Independance Day not accurate? Never!!! Theres me thinking the aliens might have supplied a real mother ship or two…;)

    Flood

    Hehe

Its not just India-pakistan i have seen played out on that board although i have to say i find that really frightening so i’m scared to post on there.

That poor old B-25 gets worse by the day. She really needs someone to care for her properly, would that I had the finances to do so.

Saw her a few years ago. whoever owns her ought to be ashamed. Give it to me and I;ll stick her in the back garden, give her a fresh coat of paint and put some covers on.

Surely some kind soul could offer her some hanger space or donate her to a local museum where she’d at least get a cosmetic refurb.

u know, when at first I read the title of the topic I thought “dead bodies as props? I wonder how u would attach them to the propeller hub!” aaah, my english comprehension is so naive sometimes

Now that might be bad taste

Martin-Baker still employ two Meteors for ejection trials, WA638 and WL419. The former of these is the oldest AIRCRAFT still on the military register

P7350 surely is the oldest aircraft on the military register, no?

Are none of the ex-swiss vamps older than 1948?

if by “questionable taste” you mean challenging and discomforting then spot on.

I saw the photo but didnt notice the dead guy, its not the BBMF lanc its a mock up built for the re-enactment. I am sure a glider with a dead pilot in was a reasonably common site in france etc in 1944. Shocking? yes, distasteful, i dunno.

The Modern forum is full of politics. International, rather than personal as seems to be the norm here. I’d be scared to ask about a story about ten year old F16 squadrons on the modern forum, i’d probably re-ignite the War Of Independance or something.

I dont know about this squadron but I would imagine the film independance day not to be that hot on accuracy.

When the EFA (now typhoon) project was floundering wasnt the F16 considered as an alternative?

    Great Stuff

What is going to happen to it when it arrives? Will it be joining the european display circuit or it to return to the US?

also is this the same aircraft as i remember seeing at Biggin Hill in 1996?
