When we talk about the term in the vicinity of the epicentre, we are talking about somewhere near Indonesia or more importantly near Andaman and Nicobar islands. You would expect Indian sub to be there because of IN base on the islands. PLAN sub might have been trying to get a peek at the new Indian base and US sub probably shadowing PLAN sub.
Where did it say the subs were close to each other? You seen how frickin big teh Indian Ocean is!?
all three submarines were in the vicinity of the epicentre
Indian ocean may be huge but since they were all close to the epicentre, they would be close to each other.
$9 billion is an out of whack number. This acquisition will not be that large.
Also, increasing the output number of the MKI isn’t just about having more shifts at the factory. The IAF’s ability to absorb the aircrafts into its force and logistics structure is most likely the limiting factor… and money, of course.
I don’t think $9 billion is an unrealistic number.
If you take min. of $50 million for each plane, you have $6.3 billion.
Apart from that TOT and infrastructure will cost more money.
BrahMos designed to mislead
By Ch Sushil Rao/TNN
Hyderabad: Why was Indiaβs anti-ship supersonic cruise missile BrahMos flight-tested once again on November 3? Although it had been put to test previously, the trial run on November 3 checked out an additional feature that this missile boasts of: it has been designed to mislead enemy ships of the direction from which it is fired.
This extra edge has made the Navy more interested in BrahMos. DRDO says if the Navy were to place a letter of intent, its production could begin in Hyderabad at the earliest. βWe can deliver one missile every month,ββ Defence Research and Development Laboratory (DRDL) director Prahlada, also program director of BrahMos, told The Times of India.
In its seventh test off the Orissa coast on November 3 BrahMos, launched from the destroyer INS Rajput, hit the target ship from the front and destroyed it. Developed as an Indo-Russian venture by BrahMos Aerospace Private Ltd, the anti-ship supersonic missile travels at Mach 2.8 and can hit a target up to 290 km away.
This is said to be from TOI print edition.
So, can any one tell me how this is done?

We are not in an arms race with Pak.: outgoing Air Chief
Kanpur, Nov. 1 (PTI): The Air Force today asserted that it was not in an arms race with Pakistan and said Islamabad’s proposed acquisition of frontline F-16 fighter jets from the US does not trouble it.
“If the US supplies F-16s to Pakistan, I would say congratulations. It does not bother us,” outgoing Air Force Chief S Krishnaswami, told reporters here when asked about Pakistan’s proposed deal with the US.
“We are not in a race with Pakistan. Pakistan is a very small country. They can have F-22s as well,” he said. π
i believe the IAF have asked for a mid-term quality check of the LCA. i hope it dosen’t turn out to be another ARJUN like project. :dev2:
They have requested mid-term quality check of Kaveri, not LCA.
“While the Air Chief said he hoped the LCA Tejas could be made operational by 2007, he has recommended a mid-term quality review of the Kaveri aero-engine (being developed for the LCA) project to DRDO.”
From what I heard the Jaguars are scheduled to be retire in 2010, but how far has the MCA project gone, will it fly in the next few years or decades?
I don’t think Jaguars will retire in 2010. India is upgrading its jaguars and have also ordered some new ones(I think?). So more realistic date will be 2015-2020.
The Atv is going to be one interesting sub. There were rumors that it would resemble the Sevrodivinisk class. Any takers for this?
Well as far as rumors are concerned, these are some of the rumors that I found about ATV :-
India has been working to develop an indigenously constructed nuclear-powered submarine, one that is based on the Soviet Charlie II-class design.
According to early reports, the design of the Indian ATV submarines, each of which will be propelled by one 190MW PWR reactor, is very similar to that of the new Russian Yasen class.
recent sources hold that the submarine design is that of the Russian Antey-class [NATO name ‘Oscar II’] SSGN.[7]
Given the degree of Russian technical assistance, the submarine could resemble the Severodvinsk Class and/or the Akula Class.
It could be entire russian fleet rolled into one sub π π π
the akula would provide a great capability….allround a good discision..btw is there any indegenouis project going on……also what about the russian counter sub to the virginia class i heard about it a long time ago is there one or not
India has 2 submarime projects going on
PROJECT 75
Project 75 will be conventionally powered submarine.IN has planned for 24 Project 75 submarines over a period of 30 years and first of them is likely to be commissioned in 2007/08.
Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV)
ATV will be indigenously constructed nuclear-powered submarine.Although India can build the hull and develop the necessary sensors they were having trouble in system integration and fabrication problems in trying to downsize a 190 MW pressurized water reactor to fit into the space available within the hull. Some rumors are going on that now they have managed to solve that problem with the help of the Russians.
I heard that India is paying money to finish construction of two incomplete AKULA IIs.
