Your are right Moggy, but sadly the decent people of the North have no say in preventing the small groups of criminals who want to destablise the current position. These people will claim to be freedom fighters (both sides have them) but its more about criminality now. Very sad.

Have read this thread with much interest. However on an historical point the “irish problem” as some people percieve it didnt start in or around the 1900’s to the modern day it has been going on for at least the lat 300 or maybe 400 hundred years. It is sad to say that the issues discussed hear will never go away totally, as recent events testafy to. Both sides say they have decommissioned but the distrust and hatered and I use the term in its most widest sense still persist. I agree we need to banish distrust and hatred and the only way to do that is get into the schools and educate the kids. If anyone is niaeve to think that things are changing the wall that separates the Shankill from the Falls is still closed and locked at night (the so called peace line). I was born and bred in the north and lvied through the 60’s and 70’s it is not a period that I would want to live through again. If the poliiticians are so adamant they wnat to change why then do some of them refuse to take up their seats in Parliament, no doubt they will calim that thier principles prevent them from doing so.

    just some thoughts

I understand the Duxford example is just a shell while the Cosford one is as complete as its ever going to be. At the last look both cockpits were substantially complete and the avaionics bays are as they were. Sadly due to Health and Safety one cannot view the cockpits anymore.

Another book worh mentioning is the “Murder of the TSR2” gives a more political perspective and reasons why the project just wasnt cancelled but completely obliterated.

Here here 617 the only absolute is that things change and sadly some people dont like change. Cosford has to move with the times and it has.

At what point did the realisation that things were not going well set in. The donations have been moved to a special account. Was this a sudden move or something that was planned when the S**t went into the ventilation system.

I can remeber on this site and others the castigation that was meeted out to folk who always maintained for what ever reasons XH558 would never fly again. The short fall was always going to be the straw that broke the camels back. So why then has the VOC persisted with this charade of putting her back into the air. This cannot be a surprise if it is they are living far more in cloud cookoo land than I thoguht. Before any one has a go I too have made contributions and bought tickets in the vain hope of seeing her fly again. Sadly she doesn’t qualify and thats it. What happens to her now is a formality she is just to big to preserve cost effectively I just hope she doesn’t suffer the fate of the Blackpool one. It is now time to let her rest in peace.

Re the Shack at Manchester whilst the building does indeed pre date the Shack by a number of years the roof of the hall was removed to allow the installation of the shack and returned once the aircraft was insitu. It would be a major projrct to remove the Shack and sadly it will all come down to money in the end. So she will probably remain in Manchester for the forseeable future.

Actually got inside her before she flew to the good ol USA when she was birthed on Windermere. Did hear that she hasn’t flown recently and that one or two of her engines have siezed but cannot confirm these details
