Haven’t watched any adverts for some time now. I record everything on commercial TV and then fast forward the adverts when they come on. Wonderful things those hard drive box jobbies.

I was going to Fenland next Sat to their spotter’s fly in, looking at the forecast I doubt the field will even be open…:(

Breighton fly in the Sunday after, let’s hope it’s cleared up a bit by then.

God, you have to be bloody keen to fly GA in this country.

Depends how much wealth he created to get that 19 million though, It pales into insignificance compared to what hedge fund manager Raymond Dalio of Bridgewater Associates earned in bonus last year. Pin your minds back.

    3.9 billion dollars.

It’s frustrating Mike but it’s the same for everyone at the moment. Just to cheer you up the weather doesn’t suddenly improve when you get your license either….

Actually managed to get a trip in on Thursday up to Sandtoft, my first flight in a month, in the same aircraft that hadn’t flown since my last flight! Quite a crosswind when I got back and I nearly swung it off the runway. When you need full rudder and differential braking to keep you straight you know you’re on the x wind limits…:)

Just finished ‘Chickenhawk’ by Robert Mason. One of those aviation classics that I’ve never read before.

I have to titter a bit when I read ‘Kid’s spend all day on the internet these days’; written by some old bloke on the internet….:)

I’m 57 and have nothing but great memories from my childhood even though I was born in a two up two down in a small mining town. We never went without, the countryside was literally at the end of our street and we felt secure.

Trumper mentions that kids sem to have a lot of anger in them; my sister and I were only talking about this last week. Look around any town centre and you rarely see a smiling kid these days. What have we done to them?

I take it then that the basic thrust of all this is that if you want to do the IMCr and be able to fly EASA a/c with it then you have to do it before April 2014? In other words 12 months to do it, pass the skills test and apply for the rating.

I have a feeling that the CAA are going to be inundated next Feb-Mar with applications for new IMCrs.

My JAR-FCL license isn’t up for renewal until 2016, my IMCr is on that but I’m going to renew it before next April just in case the ******s change their mind.

As you and Moggy both say, different strokes for different folks. I’ve just come back from my club and was talking to a guy who has been nibbling away at it for about two years now, he’s happy enough.

The instructors at my club Mog are part time, nearly all ex RAF instructors so there’s no financial pressure put on anyone to do it in any particular way. Most of the students (in fact all at the moment I think) are serving members of the RAF. It’s a RAFFCA club so as long as it financially breaks even everyone is happy. http://www.raf.mod.uk/rafflyingclubs/

By the way we’re having a GA fly in on the 12th May. Free landings, plus a tour of ATC and speak to the Waddo zone guys which I’m sure a lot of you have talked to at some time or another. There’s a question and answer session on flying through MATZ and CMATZ safely and a tour of an E3. I’ll even make you a bacon/sausage butty when you land! If you’ve ever wanted to get Waddo in your log book now’s your chance. It’s all free free free, fill yer boots! You have to book a slot with ATC by the way, don’t just pitch up.

I’m not an instructor so this is pure speculation on my part Moggy but the general consensus amongst the instructors at my club is that the more you fly the easier it is. Sounds obvious actually when you see it written down! I would say, again without qualification, that you were probably a rarity.

I did mine in four months not for no other reason than I loved doing it and wanted to do it as often as possible! The fact that the more you do something the better you get at it was a side issue really.
