This sounds interesting. Anyone got more info about this one?
Also, what is Ghost Stations 2?
Thanks,
Barry:)
I believe that the four blade prop was used to soak up the extra power without increasing the prop diameter.
Im sure someone with FAR more knowledge than me will answer better.;)

Thanks for all the help guys. I have now got in contact with the pilots grandson, and he can help me with pics and info required to build a true scale model. I have already been sent a pic of the aircrafts replacement, also coded 2 G and also called “Eight Ball”
I will hopefully get to fly it at the crash site after it is finished. This is a great piece of local history, and hopefully I can bring it to more peoples attention eventually.
Thanks again,
Barry:)
I have been doing more digging for info, and have found out that the code EE was replaced by the number 2 in the later period they were flying from Wick. Does this mean the code would read 2 (roundel) G?
Hi James,
Thanks, but ive seen them. I spent the last few days googling like crazy, but I just got more confused. The first one, with the pics shows the EE-? code. If its listed as 2+G in the ORB, how does it look on the plane?
The second page shows they were using Mark XC Beaus, not the TFX as has also been stated.
Confusing me more by the minute!
thanks,
Barry:confused:
Ive seen pics of this one before. It truly is fantastic. I liked the 1/5th scale merlin that the other guy made. The video of it running was just awsome.
Thanks Daz.
Im more of a Hurricane man myself. I had to build a compadre for my Hurricane, thats how the spitty came about.
Its electric too, just in case you were wondering why theres no exhaust!
I just wanted to make sure it was as near to perfect as I can manage with my skills. Im happy with the result.
Barry
Hi Daz, She’s a bit smaller than the cambrian jobs, at 1/12th scale, or 36″ span. Its a bit more scale than the cambrian ones too, with scale wing sections and tail areas/outlines. Im going to mould the canopy myself. Im a tight Scotsman, and hate buying anything!!

452, the first RAAF Squadron in Fighter Command was formed in the UK in April 1941 at Kirton-in-Lindsey.
The personnel set sail for Australia for the defence of Darwin in June 1942.
W3529 was ‘on charge’ in the UK rather than Australia and in consequence is not regarded in the conventional sense as an RAAF Spitfire with an A-58 serial.
The full history of both the ‘Caithness’ Spitfires, including a photo, can be found on page 90 of the ‘Air Britain’ book Gifts of War.

Great info Mark. You say “both”, were there two of them?
I will have to get a copy of the book you describe. What were the code numbers in the pic, and what squadron? That would be a good start for a model.
Im nearly finished building a Mk Vb, the “Prinses Beatrix”, from the Dutch 322 sqdn. I can post pics of her if you lot wouldnt mind, or would like to see her.
Thanks,
Barry
Why would it have been bounced around squadrons like that?
I was interested because it was called Caithness. Thats my neck of the woods. Now ive got to find a pic and make a model of it! “Not another”, I can hear the missus saying.
Thanks,
Barry
Hi there, It was first used by 452 sqdn apparently. I then have it listed in 129, 131, 610, 310, 313, 402, and 577 squadrons. I dont know what the score is with all these squadrons though. It seems a bit weird to me.
Thanks for helping.
Barry:)
Thanks skipper. Those pics really opened my eyes. I cant believe that things were that well preserved after all these years.
Hi Skipper, the top link for the iceland site isnt working for me.
Barry
Hi Scotvia, Thanks for the update. I will ask around the restorers to find out who has the merlin. I know most of them anyway, as im into restoring old mini’s myself (hence the handle)
Its a bit of a sin that these great items arent on display for others to see.
I feel that a lot of our heritage and stories etc are soon going to dissapear when the older generation go. I dont want that to happen, and thats why im desperately trying to find out info about my local areas aviation history. It really excites me, and I remember my granny telling me about Wick during the war. These stories just made me more interested.
Got any more yarns to tell about Caithness/RAF Wick in the war???? Im keen to know all that I can. I also want to find out about this hurri so I can build another RC model of it. Sqdn etc? My last build was Frank Careys mount FT-Y.It flew from RAF Wick for a spell in ww2.
Barry
Thanks guys.:)
Im having to build a new garage/workshop to make way for said youngster in my modelling room.
I will have a new home for restoring my mini’s though after it all, and the garage is even big enough for a light aircraft eventually. Just dont tell the missus:dev2: 😉
