I-2000, Integral, Integral-2000, Vityaz, and Vityaz-2000 were all conceptual designs put forth by the Mukhamedov OKB.

whoa,…it was early 90s and times were difficult for new group mig-mapo,then 1st deal was struck with iran in selling -29s from its stocks.new enthusiasm showed for joint realisation of project 2000, light fighter of 21st century, but then sudden “friendship” with usa appeared and boris Y. made a series of unilateral goodwill [bad] moves ,sileneced the mig who barely survived, iran got very mad and went for indenpendance in aircraft industry,-mukhamedanov buerau [soviet type] was established who toyed with idea, but oil prices slumped as did their economy so they went for cheaper f-5 designs,,,
,1 deal did survive do -the nuclear.

    Psst…the ‘I-2000’ was never a MiG project…

But that video was pretty amusing ๐Ÿ˜€

i know its theirs they just called it different in mig-mapo, LFI.

It may be the unfortunate angle, but that really looks like an ugly aircraft! It seems to be very ‘fat’ up top, unlike a lot of the UCAVs on the market (Barracuda, Taranis, X-45 and X-47). It does of course remain to be seen if this is another ‘look what we could do if we were given the money to do it’ exercises, or if this is a genuine project. A few years back, I remember AFM showed pictures from an airshow, it may have been MAKS (though I can’t quite recall), of two ‘new Russian UAVs’, and they were basically just carbon copies of Predator and Global Hawk.

uf i agree but thats because of bomb-bay is on top, structure is sitting on delta-wing,wing seem to be completely fueled, like a gastank ,not suprising with its long operational range and heavy long-reach missiles…2 thing held in high regard here,we never did like american up-close and personal wild-weasel tactics.
it shows we suck in stealth area,
deadlines are being moved, putins propaganda having to work overtime to convince were progressing at fantastic rates blablabla….

i just wish they copy -229 instead of bad unmanned copy of american f-117a.
[and i dont like that sferrin guy but his 100% on the mark.]

    powerplant replacement.
a dawnting task ,takes 4 times longer [2 hours] and special equipment compared to mig-29a.

To all who replied I greatly appreciate it. Nice to have confirmation that the Kazakh Air Force actually does operate the Foxhound. I’ve heard that before, but I wasn’t sure if it was true or not.

I’m kinda surprised at the relative lack of info (and replies for this thread) on the MiG-31.

Seems like people will talk about Flankers and Fulcrums all day long, but I’d like to learn more about the Foxhound, and what the Russians are planning for it.

Anyone else have any info to share?

    Dare I ask…….Garry?

Phantom guy,i could write you 30 pages about airship so its daunting task and big airplane-BIG topic ,try to be more specific and narrower…oh i see you have been.
    good.
    Garry?
Actually i was expecting comrad paralay ๐Ÿ˜€ ๐Ÿ˜€
hard to find wab pages in english i understand.
its capabilities are closely tied with our defence so you understand i hope.
but heres where comrad para like to hanf out and its migs thread

anyway i was in discussion in ixbt forum my favourite and there and before disscussion we had agreed to turn admin power off ,brakes were off, and weve so far reached record breaking number of pages on single topic i think…lots of data and links about mig-31 too…
    http://forum.ixbt.com/topic.cgi?id=15:57336-84

come to think of it there was a guy there who said rcs of f-22 in worst case scenario is 0,3m2……hmmm i wonder could it be our dear comrad LEVSHA?:D

by the ways i ve alwas wanted to ask what is that company that makes invisible cloaking devices [something along plasma stealth i guess] called clingon ,?
    is that part of rayethon?
its mentioned several times, its very interesting, invisible clingon cloaking device optical and radar…

On the contrary, something very similar to the PAK-FA will fly before the end
of the decade, the problem Sukhoi is indeed facing is that what is being built
now is becoming more and more yet another demonstrator (1.44, S-37 and
now this), which in turn maybe the indication of an incremental
    development strategy gone wrong.

The point of this strategy was to introduce progressively the technologies
developed for the PAK-FA into systems for Flanker derivatives (Su-35BM), in
order to make some profits that would in turn help to fund further R&D efforts
for the PAK-FA. In turn the first production PAK-FAs would be less capable
aircraft still using still interim sensor and weapon systems from the ultimate flanker variants.

What seems to be happening is that this approach maybe not so clever, and
is introducing more and more delays to the PAK-FA development.

The critical system here is the engine. What I think will happen is that a
prototype will indeed fly before the end of the decade, but powered by
AL-31 engines, which will be a good test platform for some purposes, but
could become a pointless demonstrator if the development stage of the AL-41
has no end in sight. No AL-41, no supercruise. No supercruise, no 5th
generation aircraft. This makes it pointless to start PAK-FA production
without a 5th generation engine ready. Procuring Su-35BMs is more logic
than PAK-FAs with interim systems, which would only be superior to the
Flanker in what concerns to stealth, while being almost certainly much more
    expensive…

Thank you komrad klingsor as i couldnt have said it better myself in english…
no it may look like a game of numbers but its not its very serious since billions are at stake. Now politicians and ivanovs guy zelin ,want 100-110% of raptors capabilities at 50% price…then answer from tehnicians and statistic math people is no way [modest estimates],then some of cabinet change their mind some stick to their thoughts ,then other way around they come and say we can get 63% capabilities at 40% price ore 75% at 55% price…politics and economists say no way it has to be 60 mil tops or will get mfi product back online, then they say its 33% price of f-22 we can get 50% capabilities, other side say but thats too low.i am aproximating numbers but idea is correct they ve been going back and forth calculating and recalculating all with different ideas whats best, and now sukhoi engeneers realising what their up against and having to swallow their over optimistic promises…
if its be smaller and cheaper then f-22 it cant have same range on smaller fuel ,and go the same distance in supercruise as f-22 wich is unfortunate since in ussr we allways strived for big ranges, and then they say no prob we make bleeding edge engines,so that stalls saturns advances program, shifting requirements is never a good thing.

easy, inflight refueling probe is on the left side in older foxhounds as it was added latter in production, true mig-31m has designed with probe on the right side from start.

MOSCOW, May 22 (RIA Novosti) – Russia’s fifth generation fighter will take to the skies by the end of 2008, a first deputy prime minister said Tuesday at a session of a government military commission.

“We are nearing the end of research and development work, and Mikhail [Pogosyan, the head of Sukhoi aircraft maker] confirmed that the first plane will make its maiden flight in late 2008,” Sergei Ivanov said.

Ivanov, who oversees industrial development and is seen as a candidate to succeed President Vladimir Putin in elections next spring, said the new fighter will become the mainstay of Russian frontline aviation in the 21st century.

The minister said the new multirole fighter, developed by Sukhoi design bureau, will feature high maneuverability and stealth to ensure air superiority and precision in destroying ground and sea targets.

“The development of a new generation aircraft will certainly boost the authority and competitiveness of the Russian defense industry on global markets,” Ivanov said.

And this is a very good situation for new airplane Sergei our new president has staked his name and reputation on this and politics is helping our new fighter not slowing it which is good, money requested is coming as soon as requested.what i have problem now is well funded engeneers sounding modest while powerpeople give really extreme capabilities of figter.i have never seen this in all my life.
its how to make it affordable thats making problems mfi bug is back.

    here more about composites..
However, he continued, โ€œit is hard to say that this airplane will be lifted into the air in 2009, it may be later, when production is beginning.โ€
Among them is the mastering the manufacturing of structures using new materials, in particular, carbon-fiber composites. โ€œThese are rather complex processes, it is difficult to predict them,โ€ the OAK head emphasized.

Fedorov emphasized that โ€œall the avionics in this airplane are Russian.โ€

โ€œIf one is speaking of the project, then it is the most labor-intensive and longest part in the cycle,โ€ he reported. – โ€œThe assembly of the airframe and carriage ((PLATFORMA)) will occur faster than creation of the stuffing.โ€

    Source: 19.04.07, ARMS-TASS

Well doooooh then i guess all their talk about using experiense gained from mig-mfi prototype and s-37 was just nothing.Composites design and use was the main thing they learned upon in construction of this airplanes, mmeaning airframe will come to be faster and cheaper Fedorov needs to sound modest and also ask more money thats all…
PLATFORMA means without engines ,airframe will come first as for radar testings time while they wait for engines and radar.
now,SOME [not broadcasted] NEWS, since wings are coming from mig s plant and same line made for mfi, guess what the plane looks like ๐Ÿ˜•

Disengage does not mean to run away today! Every fighter has to fullfill a task. In nearly all cases it means to choose the optimum position to counter the position of an attacker. Modern fighters have several options to do so.

Not according to komrade Komarov.High flying flankers dont have much chance ,only low flying. Its just power and bigger dish of mig-31s and its dual band searching mode.
    ………
Oufcourse but we are talking how big that window of opportunity and how limited options are is both offence and difence!
    Radar,Supercruise is therefore important factor.
    Its what makes better fighter.

I wonder if the advantage may not have shifted from the attack to the defense. With long range, high off boresight, datalinked missiles such as MICA, the defending aircraft may be able to fire a missile over the shoulder at medium to long range. This implies that the attacker will fly toward the missile while the defender will be flying away from the interceptor, decreasing its engagement range.

It depends on sooo many factors….
I not so sure.In that case the missile has very difficult time ,since enemy uses his esm and countermesures, decoys, to full while you have brocken radar lock.its a stress situation but counter-measures are very good today.Simmilar scenario happened if u look at etiopia-eritrea war when sukhoi 27 fired a salvo of alamo missiles ?3-4? and disingaded not to allow itself going into mortal dogfight, but all R-27 missed eritrean mig-29.

what i wanted to say is that the difference between radar warning time and enemys radar aquisition time he gets on you is not that much. this is in case opponents face each other,so in the end it lot depend of tacticians decisions.
all in all it seems NEZ for the raffale type is smaller than typhoon making it more flexible in air-air combat and thus bit better all other thing being equal.
