I´ve heard a longer time ago that black noses were used in order to avoid impairing the transmission and reception of signals. Only a few different colors were possible and many airlines decided to paint their noses black and even included the black noses into their liveries like Alitalia, Iberia etc…
At a later stage far more color-options became available (to fit the colors used by an airline) and many airlines decided to get rid of their black noses. Even American Airlines withdraw the characteristic black noses on their Super 80-aircraft while Iberia phased out their black noses during the second half of the 1990s.
Maybe I am wrong with but this is the story I´ve heard. This version is not related to the “black ring” on British Airways-aircraft.

Hello!
Blue1’s sixth Boeing 717 is believed to be on its way to Helsinki from Miami via Bangor and Keflavik.
Regards
Why should they?:)
The 717 is an orphan and reality shows that the 717 will be a rare sight in Europa – even with a growing 717-fleet at Blue1. The 717 is nevertheless considerably smaller than the 737-300 and lacks the range that most carriers need.
Just read a few hours ago that the last 717 of Spanair is indeed no longer operational. One engine is no longer attached and the source says that the aicraft will be flown to Helsinki as soon as a replacement-engine is ready. So after installation the 717 will probably not fly for Spanair any longer.

Thank you very much for your update!

MD-80s retired
It is believed that Onur Air retired their last two MD-88s a few days ago. Three MD-88-sisterships were stored earlier. Onur Air operated ten MD-80s between 1997 and 2010 with one MD-82 being leased from bestair, five MD-88s and four MD-83s.
The company was the last costumer for the MD-88 and the last new costumer for MD-80s in Europe when it placed an order for five 172-seat MD-88s with five options in November 1995 for delivery in mid-1997.

Hello,
their latest Boeing 717 wears the “Star Alliance”-livery. The last MD-90 was replaced at the end of November 2010.

I think that this picture only shows the interim-version of a new livery? Just awful – like many new liveries…

@cloud_9:
Thank you very much for your link with photo. Now it´s clear that the company will be “REDjet”, not Red Jet. 🙂
It´s a rather strange name for a Caribbean airline…
Best regards!
After buying A320s, they bought 737NGs.
The point I was putting across was that politics will play a big part in this order.
I thought that they bought Boeing 737NGs first (as a logical step to expand and replace their 737-400/-500-fleets) and then they introduced the Airbus A320-family? Nevertheless: such fleet-decisions are rather strange to me and there are (in my opinion) some similarities at some Chinese airlines who operate both – the 737 and A320-family. The “logical” fleet-structure of THY would have been the Boeing 737 only as their standard narrowbody.
Hope you all like a Doner……
I like it :p
Looks more like a start up scheme or for a low cost arm.
Yes, it lacks something special but luckily Malaysia Airlines retained their traditional logo.
Bye
Is IST capable to handle Airbus A380s?
Thank you for an answer.
I think that such marked areas are mandatory in some countries while in other countries not?
Thanks
