And what should the SR-71 have been called? I read an account of the mix-up once, but can’t remember.

“The USAF had planned to redesignate the A-12 aircraft as the B-71 as the successor to the B-70 Valkyrie, which had two test Valkyries flying at Edwards AFB, California. The B-71 would have a nuclear capability of 6 bombs. The next designation was RS-71 (Reconnaissance-Strike) when the strike capability became an option. However, then USAF Chief of Staff Curtis LeMay preferred the SR designation and wanted the RS-71 to be named SR-71. Before the Blackbird was to be announced by President Johnson on February 29, 1964, LeMay lobbied to modify Johnson’s speech to read SR-71 instead of RS-71. The media transcript given to the press at the time still had the earlier RS-71 designation in places, creating the myth that the president had misread the plane’s designation.”

I like the F-16XL but the Typhoon is my favourite plane in both a technical and aesthetic sense.

If all they had avail was an axe to break the door, do you think airline would favour FO landing himself or a large repair bill?

I woulda thought the repair bill because obviously safety is more important and a new plane costs a lot more than a new door 😀 Obviously the risk is very low but i wouldn’t have thought it was worth taking.

It looks similar to me but the engine outlets aren’t right next to each other like on the hornets i’ve seen. Which leads me to believe it’s russian. But as you can see i’m terrible with this stuff so any help would be appreciated.

Thanks. I thought it was an F14 what with the swing wings and all. Some guy called it a JSF so I politely informed him it was definitely not a JSF but maybe in fact an f14 or f18. He replied with “this is an SU-35 not an F-18 or an F-14 but an SU-35, smart ass” so I presumed he’d done his research and was right because I really know next to nothing about Russian planes. Oh well. Thanks for the help.
