Ozplane,

Thanks for calling in, it was much appreciated.

The final count was 107 visitors with around 15 making it in on Saturday night for the party.

Thanks to everyone who made the event a success, especially the volunteers without whom we could not operate.

Cheers

Thanks Dan, that’s great.

Could I ask if anyone else sees any publicity from the flight could they post it on here or e-mail me at stephen.bridgewater@keypublishing.com ?

Louise and I did so many newspaper and radio interviews over the last few days that we lost track of where we were getting the publicity.

Thanks guys.

Neil – the guys and gals at BBMF (especially Al Pinner and Jeanette) were all a great help. Landing at Coningsby and taxiing in to see so many people waiting for us was one of the highlights of the trip. The air traffic team were also very helpful both inbound and outbound.

Trapper 69 and Mike – many thanks for your comments.

Mike, glad you like the mag – I note you’re based at EGTK… in that case you may have seen G-AYEE that we used for the flight? She’s covered in our sponsors logos and somebody in EGTK tower commented that it looked like she’d been caught up an ‘explosion at a sticker factory’!!

If you get chance to come across to Pilot Flight Training sometime do come and say hello to the D2D team – most of whom are based there.

Cheers

Thanks Janie,

Route was

Oxford-Coventry
Coventry-Coventry (wx diversion)
Coventry-Blackpool
Blackpool-Coningsby
Coningsby-Wittering
Wittering-Duxford
Duxford-Cambridge
Cambridge-North Weald
North Weald-Manston
Manston-Goodwood
Goodwood-Lasham

The article will be in a future issue of TP – maybe the next one if I can find space.

Again, a big thank you to the airfields – many of whom waived landing fees, some of whom donated fuel and some of which opened late/early for us.

Squirrel / Janie,

Thought you might be interested to hear how we got on?

Despite a two and three quarter hour delay due to fog at Oxford we finally got airborne at 07.15 to Coventry. We then spent a while on the ground at Coventry waiting for the haze to clear.

As the weather improved we vowed to complete as much of the flight as possible and – by just after 9pm last night we’d visited 14 airfields!

Total of 9.7hrs logged as far north as Blackpool and as far south as Goodwood.

It was an amazing day – one that Louise and I will remember forever.

Hopefully we also raised a lot of publicity for Flying Scholarships for the Disabled too.

Thank you to everyone who supported the flight – as well as everyone in our ops team and at the airfields who worked so hard yesterday to make sure it went as well as it did. You were all stars!

Cheers

Hi Mark,

I think Aspen will be a little out of range for our Cherokee – although I’m sure Bill would be the perfect host!

For purely selfish reasons I can’t make July 9… I’ll be at Leg Ends that weekend!

Mark A – Hornchurch isn’t operational any more, but nearby Damyns Hall uses ‘Hornchurch Radio’ as its call sign – that’s about as near as we can get.

Anyway, lots of progress to report including sponsorship from Lycoming and Bendix King. We’ve also been joined by Shepherd Neame (Spitfire Ale) as a major supporter. They planning a media launch event for late June and have booked Spitfire BM597 to attend. Date and venue TBC though.

The Cherokee we’re using has also been requested for static display at RIAT in July – which is very exciting for us as we’ll have the chance to promote the charity to an even wider audience.

The website – http://www.spitfired2dchallenge.co.uk – has all the updates and we’re hoping to post the proposed route on there very soon… as soon as I’ve had confirmation from the last few airfields.

Thanks for your support

Thanks Shaft, will keep an eye open for you in the NCL area – not sure we’d keep up with you for a formation shot though!

Moggy, that sounds like a great challenge, now why didn’t I think of that…

Cheers guys

I seem to recall there was an article in Today’s Pilot’s December issue called ‘Going Places – Wolverhampton Airport’… It was written by somebody called Bridgewater…!

In it he mentioned that the cafe had been completely refurbished and the airport was keen to promote itself to the GA community through fly-outs and fly-ins.

I also recall it mentioning that the Green was in the process of opening a new (unlicensed) grass runway.

Anyways – they seemed like a friendly bunch who were keen to receive visitors.

It wasn’t a bad article by all accounts…

Cheers

What a great day – despite the ‘orrible weather en-route.

Thanks for allowing me to gate crash the day – even if Janie and I didn’t allow you much choice! Keep an eye open for a few photos in the next issue of Today’s Pilot.

Janie – thanks for the flight, you did an admirable landing back at LG, I had my eyes open nearly all the time. Next time I’ll drive and you can nav – we must work on our intercepting skills before hand though.

Nice to meet you all at last. See you all at Tollerton on August 27?

Deano 777,

Thanks for the invite, I’ll try my best to be at the forum fly-in – assuming work doesn’t get in the way. I’ll keep watching this thread and see what you’ve got planned.

It’ll be nice to meet some forum ‘faces’ at Tollerton on August 27 and at your own fly-in too.

Cheers

Of course you could always come along to the Today’s Pilot Fly-In at Nottingham (Tollerton) on August 27!

I’ve just had the official go-ahead and confirmed the date and will obviously keep you updated over the months ahead.

Traditionally we have a theme to the fly-in… this year we couldn’t resist marking the 60th anniversary of the DHC-1 Chipmunk.

See you there?

Best regards

Hi Janie,

Glad you could make it at short notice – only sorry I didn’t have more time to talk. Hope the flight to Leicester was good and the noise ‘amelioration’ procedures weren’t too complex!

When I next see Seagull I’ll ask him about the competition and find out who won!

Thanks again, see you soon
