I am going to put up a few samples of photos from each of the sites visited oon the Patterson World Tour starting with the Pioneer restoration site in Auckland where there are three P40s , a Yak 3 and a P51 being worked on as well as a recently completed Pilatus Porter.

Daz, Mike Subritzky said the Spitfire is basically complete now except for an engine overhaul and prop overhaul. He said they have another Merlin that they can drop in it if they wanted, but he said they’re not too interested in getting it flying right now because they’re full time restoring the first of the Hinds.

No the sword isn’t a flyer and I think it needs some TLC pretty soon or it will deterioate too badly to do much with. It shouldn’t be outside!!

Next we got on a series of planes and made our way to the unusually damp city of Christchurch and the RNZAF Museum at Wigram – A fantastic Museum and one that shows just how much can be done with a little.
From here Steve finished his New Zealand tour and travelled to Melbourne Australia whilst I went to Wanaka for the day before joining him the next day in Melbourne. I will start a seperate post tomorrow with the Australian leg.

Now we went on to Glyn Powell’s magnificent Mosquito rebuild facility near Auckland – we were all very impressed and a little daunted by what it takes to produce an airworthy Mossie. The Canadian machine has not yet left for it’s new home but work has already commenced on the next machine and the moulds are already being made ready,

Then on to the Smiths collection at a small rural strip near Auckland – what a little treat- a local collector had pulled his whole collection of aircraft out for a visit by the local historic society and he though we were them !!!
Dave even talked his way into a ride in a proctor !!
