This just in from Lee Howard:-
“Just to let you know that the Royal Navy Historic Flight here at Yeovilton have, for once, had some luck on their side this week. On Monday Sea Fury FB.11 VR930 made its first flight since having its Bristol Centaurus engine completely rebuilt by Ricardo Engineering at Shoreham. The aircraft, in the hands of Cdr Dave MacKay, flew for 1 hr 20 mins and flew several times yesterday in preparation for a planned low-key display at this weekend’s Yeovilton Air Day.
Not content with that, at 15.30 this afternoon Sea Hawk FGA.6 WV908 took to the skies again for the first time since being grounded in 1997. Lt Cdr Russ Eatwell, on his first flight on type, flew the aircraft in beautiful weather conditions for just under an hour and this too is hoped to make a limited display this weekend.”

I think aside from the RNHF there are only two airworthy.
Interesting stat. The last time a Sea Fury and Sea Hawk were flown together was 1986 🙂

Lets hope the pilot realises his lack of time and experience on type and keeps it simple and safe.
If they get the 3 Swordfish up and Duxfords static gets completed maybe we could have 4 parked up at a Legends some point soon, how many years ago was that last seen?.
How many flyable swordfish are there left in the world now?
Well done to them all at RNHF 😀

Both aircraft are due to display at yeovilton between 1 and 2 on Saturday.

Why Not? The are scheduled to fly at Biggin Hill around 1700 on Saturday, which will probably mean they will fly at Yeovilton early on in the flying programme, then go straight to Biggin and nitestop there ready for their Sunday slot which is around 1545.
I think that is how it will go 🙂

I take it this means that they will not be at Biggin Hill 🙁 But well done for finally getting them back into the air 😀 😀 😀

Excellent news. Can’t wait to see them. What chance of one or both being at Duxford in October?

Just back from Yeovilton now and WV908 was flying once more on a test flight.
It also flew a short display practice 🙂
