Is Deep Purple still popular in the UK? They go somewhat unnoticed I think compared to the other hard rock acts of the 60s and 70s…some brilliant stuff though.
I saw them with a friend of mine many years ago and they were brilliant but they were so loud my mate actually walked out.I did have to agree with him because the music is very musical [ LOL] and they didn’t need it so loud.
Led Zepp and the Rolling Stones always a must for me ,Sympathy for the Devil ,paint it black and the drum solo Moby Dick from John Bonham.

Maiden!!!! *Head bangs like a nutter!*
Led Zeppelin… I don’t trust people that don’t like Zeppelin. Stand out band of the ’60s. Sorry Beatles, Rolling Stones, I love you but… Zeppelin are the Mutt’s Nuts!
In my experience people who don’t like Zep usually do so for “I want to be unique and not like a universally loved bad” reasons…..which is pretty damn stupid IMO.
I have a special place in my heart for the Stones, Paint It Black at the end of Full Metal Jacket (credits I think lol) got me into rock in the first place!

Mainly Musical Theatre, various sub genres of classical, Swing/Ragtime/Electro-swing & 80s/90s pop. tbh I’ll listen to almost anything, I just can’t abide Urban/RnB or Hardcore Screamo type stuff.

Mostly classic and hard rock myself. Love Metallica but don’t like metal in general.
Come to think of it, most is British. Deep Purple, Black Sabbath, Iron Maiden, Zeppelin…

Ah music.
The first music I remember liking were things like Slade and Sweet and Status Quo in the early 1970s, I moved on to the Ramones, Blondie, Sex Pistols, the Damned, the Skids in the late 1980s then for some reason moved back to metal; AC/DC, Iron Maiden, Motorhead, Girlschool in the early 1980s. After that , anything. The Jesus and Mary Chain, the Pixies, Nirvana My Bloody Valentine, Ride, the Wedding Present, the Raveonettes Green Day, Foo Fighters etc. the list is long and excellent, the most recent albums are by the Cheatahs, Joanna Gruesome, the Dum Dum Girls, Palma Violets
Nowadays Iβll listen and enjoy lots of different music, and last night driving home listening to my favourites, I had tracks from Elvis Presley, Buddy Holly, Bomb the Bass, Spiritualized, Harry Belafonte, A Place to Bury Strangers, Beastie Boys and the Manhattan Love Suicides .
Not many concerts last year, only the Arctic Monkeys in October and the awesome Black Rebel Motorcycle Club in March. This year we have Status Quo on their Frantic Four tour next week (the last time I saw them was 1984) and the Pixies in July (the last time I saw the Pixies was 1992).
There is no music I particularly βhateβ but there is much I would not choose to listen to, opera, most classical, country and western, American 1980s βheavyβ rock and modern metal among others. Liking or not liking a particular kind of music or disrespecting others who have different musical tastes to you does not make you a better person.
Having said that, one of my favourite bands have a song about Slipknot though…. called Vatican Broadside…..Warning – contains swearing – and rightly so. π Fell free to click and then be offended despite having been warned.

Anyone who’s come within 10 feet of my stall at aerojumbles will know my tastes in music as I usually have a compilation of mp3 tracks playing on the van’s speakers to keep me from getting too bored.
Scanning the playlists, you’ll find it largely blues, or blues influenced (rock’n’roll, rythmn and blues, etc) with excursions into electric folk, soft rock, a bit of “new country” (but count me as another who cannot stand all that “twangy twangy, yeehaw” crap), a smidgeon of psychedelia and an increasing amount of “progressive” from mostly british bands you’ve never heard of or have forgotten about.
For the record, it was probably Smokestack Lightnin’ by Howling Wolf, being played on Luxembourg in the late 1950s/very early 1960s that gave me my “wtf…?” moment. Didn’t know what the music was, just knew I loved it and wanted to hear more. Mike Raven’s R & B Show on the BBC expanded my knowledge of the Blues and was a must listen to.
Years later, the coming of JazzFm to the Manchester area, and particularly Pete Johnson’s Saturday and Sunday shows, and later his Blues in the Night programmes re-kindled the love affair. His playlists were sometimes a bit limited but he had a good ear for a cracking track and I’m still listening to many of the newer artists that he introduced me to.
Speaking of which, with Shoreham aerojumble looming, it’s time to get the mp3 player charged up!
By: Axel-edwards - 25th March 2014 at 10:00
No, he didn’t make them up.
Sweary groups of bandana-wearing poodle rockers with tattoos and attitudes that have been and gone many times in the last 40-odd years. {snip}
the bands I listen do not swear and most of their songs have meaning

ANYTHING other than Country a Western. Elvis, Roy Orbison etc.
Andre Rieu, and his orchestra, and his waltsess are nice and relaxing.

Or gospel. Good grief, not gospel please, amen.
Now, what other music forms can I rubbish…;o)
