No ‘e’ in the real stuff
Maybe he is admitting to mixing his drink and drugs…;o)
Would love to see Ripping Yarns which I don’t think has ever been repeated.
Saw it not so long ago on one o’them satellite thingies.
Wasn’t Palin’s film The Missionary expanded on from an unused Ripping Yarns plot?
Agreed BUT only if it reaches the same high standards as the first series.
Fawlty Towers will never be expanded upon. It was apparently made using the laws of comedy thought up by some old French comedian, the essential premise being that there are only so many basic plots available before you start reusing them – something that the soaps knew of and adapted many, many years ago.
And Ronnie Corbett? A miserable little bleeder, according to a mate who tried to get his autograph a couple of years ago. Met him myself in the early 90’s and he was not a very pleasant fellow even then. Best to say that the genius of the Two Ronnies died a few years ago and the survivor has been trying to get back into the spotlight again with the odd dreadful radio comedy, a few ‘guest’ appearances, and a few adverts dwelling on his height.

I noticed that at the press conference they had switched name tags so were identified as each other.

Yes they said it would be filmed.
Yes extraordinary and I’ve been watching/listening to them since the Crawdaddy Club in Richmond in 1963. A short bus ride from home it was a favourite music venue of the time and the year before that the Stones were “born” by the great Alexis Korner at the Ealing Club where I’d gone with friends for my birthday!! West London was a good place to live in those days, if you liked blues music.:highly_amused:

Have they said whether the show/s will be filmed and later televised? I hope so. It would be sad if only a tiny select few gets to see the show when most of their fans are actually outside of Britain.
That is awesome that Mick Jagger is about to become a great-grandad. It’s fantastic that the Rolling Stones are about to start their 50th Anniversary tour which will take them all round the world again. They must surely be the only band in the world who are still together with pretty much the same line up as when they began and touring on a massive worldwide touring schedule, still commanding massive audiences, and still belting out the songs as good as ever. They are without doubt the greatest rock and roll band in the world.

Me too and I am unconvinced by their teasers at the PC for what the show might consist of. Having said that I was not in the least surprised at the speed the tickets sold out in. What does O2 hold – 15/20,000? Hardly a large number for the considerable fan base they appear to have. I suspect that they always had provisionally planned for several more shows but waited to see how the tickets sold. Well, now they know!!

I’m still firmly in the ‘They should retire gracefully and leave us with the memory of when they were good’ camp
Meanwhile, on a similar topic, Mick Jagger is about to become a Great Grandfather

I would like to think Moggs, that they are still as funny/amusing, as they were, when they disbanded. That’s a hellofalot of tickets to sell in such a short time. Lets hope they live up to expectations.

And here’s Graham at his wonderful best.

Well Monty P were my favourites for many years and still are in many ways.
Sadly without Graham Chapman I feel it’ll be like a circus (‘scuse pun) without it’s performing elephant.
Here’s a little piecette from The group which still makes me smile–and it’s a lot of years now.

Thanks for the tip! I’ve had the published scripts for many years so I will now hunt down the DVDs.
By: Mr Creosote - 20th November 2013 at 20:16
It has been regularly repeated on ITV4 I think it is and very welcome too. Never palls. Would love to see Ripping Yarns which I don’t think has ever been repeated. We had a now unplayable VHS for many years.
You can get Ripping Yarns DVD’s quite reasonably priced on Ebay. Recently read books of the transcripts. Brilliant stuff; where else would you find lines like “I know you! You’re Jean-Pierre Olthwaite’s lad!” ?

And remember that, despite strong and persuasive pressure from the BBC, John and Connie refused to write anymore precisely because they were not confident of maintaining the quality. What a pity so many other writers haven’t done the same as we have watched series go on one after the other, getting worse and worse…….

As many hundreds of hours of Python I watched and loved, I would rather like to see the return of Fawlty Towers.
Agreed BUT only if it reaches the same high standards as the first series.
