I have been well and truly Hacked on my Hotmail account, even though I have the paid version of AVG, a Hacker has found a “Back door” it would seem on AVG.
Just a headsup to you all to be wary.
I have not been able to receive Emails or send on my Hotmail, ont Comp or mobile.
Now sorted, but at a cost, these Hackers want castrating.

Trouble the anti-virus companies have is they cannot deal with a virus, tojan until it’s in the public domain. Until it has been identifed they can’t come up with a way of blocking or a cure for the virus, it’s not unusual for a virus/trojan to run rampent for a week or two. As said before the anti-virus companies are always playing catch up.

Jim, i do believe there is a way of transferring your contacts from hotmail to googlemail (if i remember correctly) however, you should have set up a secret question when you created your hotmail account, this is for want of a better word, like back door access should you forget your password,
if you manage to get this far, you can message all contacts at once, just tell them you have a new email that your going to use from now on, shouldnt take more than a few minutes, if you get stuck, drop me a message on facebook and il try and help you

Cheers Bruce, I will have a go at changing passwords, and will write them down, and then swallow the paper, that should stuff em 😀

Regular use of CCleaner combined with some anti-virus and anti-malware software seems to work for me, so far.

I swear by my Spam box! Never less than 30 items when I boot up each morning. Never, ever open anything I don’t recognize. And passwords are always a mix of caps, lower case and numerals.

I agree Bruce…I always avoid links !
Recently I have had a few windows asking me to log in my p/w etc again… I will not even do that…I just close down and go back in through the main door !
As Gary said – the security guys are always playing catch up !

Hackers hack hotmail accounts mostly using blunt instruments – a programme, which will slowly work through grillions of password combinations until it gets in. Once it does, they can often find a link back to you, so this probably has nothing to do with AVG insecurities.
My wife has had her hotmail attacked a couple of times, they got me once too. Password strength is the key – use numbers and symbols as well as an obscure word or string of letters. Just make sure you remember it!
Also make sure you never, never open a link contained in an email, even one that sounds incredibly persuasive – that is another good way of them getting access to your PC. If you get an email asking for you to update information, always go to the website yourself, and do it manually, never from a link – 99.9% of times they will be fishing.
Of course, none of us use the same password for everything now do we…..?

Itoo had the same trouble with McAfee which I have on my “Spare” laptop,so I guess for the first time in nearly a year, I had better start it up, and try and get that sorted out.
Not looking forward to that.
Have you all realised just how much we rely on our Comps,?, I didn’t until the one I am on now, went belly up.

There is a serious fight going on between Microsoft and Google. Have a look at http://www.scroogled.com/email/. For anti-virus, I use Microsoft Security Essentials on one computer and BitDefender on the other. I was using McAfee and I also got hacked. I was able to find and remove the offending exe file myself so I don’t know how it got by McAfee. I have other gripes against them as well so they won’t get my money any more.

Yes I expect it will be a fag but hopefully worth it in the long run and you can batch send one email to all your addresses from the new address to which your contacts can then reply. Well that’s the theory anyway. Good luck!:)

Likewise – been with Gmail for ages, having switched from Hotmail, and haven’t had a problem.

A lot of my computer nerd friends strongly advise staying away from hotmail, apparently it’s full of loop holes for hackers to get in to, Gmail is much safer. I converted several years ago

What annoys me, is the fact that I PAID AVG for a better version of their product, but it still let Trojans into my comp, plus other naughty things.
