Yes we go back many years and the best machine I have had even although it was in the 50’s was a Douglad 90 plus traverse twin 350cc finished in the then new metalic blue, it looked and rode lovely.

Hi 27vet. I think you would get on with a Sunbeam s8 shaft drive, but no doubt a good one would be hard to find these days.

I have a 1979 Honda CB550K in quite good nick. Haven’t ridden it for a long time though. The carbs have frozen so I can’t turn the throttle. Parts are hard to come by. It is at my folk’s place in South Africa and I only go there once a year so don’t really have much time to take care of it.

Generally I like shaft drive road bikes, although the Electra Glide (belt drive if I am not mistaken) looks good and I wouldn’t refuse one if I could get one for a good price and in good nick. 😀

Had my fair share of Triumphs, BSAs, and big Hondas in my youth, but am happy to have owned and settled down to several Harleys Big twins since 1978. This one is for keeps – my hand-shift foot-clutch 1974 FLH 1200 Electra Glide. She’s a movie star!

Al, What a lovely Harley, and by the looks of it, well looked after, I like the colour, can’t argue the fact that Harley build a bike to last!!

My absolute favourite was my 1970 BSA A65 Thunderbolt (lost pics unfortunately)
She was an ex police escort bike and still had the ‘jam sandwich’ fairing and panniers – the guy I bought her from had put a large blue RAC badge where the blue light had been 🙂
2nd fave was this 1978 Triumph Tiger 750,but she was a little smaller than the beezer – i preferred the longer wheelbase on the beezer and the fools had put the gear lever on the wrong side LOL :rolleyes:
Here she is at RAF Brawdy circa 1978 and virtually brand new

Hi Bazv. Brings back happy memories when I see photos of REAL motorcycles, that fired once every other lamp post, as we used to say, but some of the peak revs the modern bikes go to is unbelievable.

Never had one,been on two,fell off twice.Decided it wasn’t for me.
Spent a week one day, pillion on a lambretta sx200 to Bridlington.I think it spent more time on the hard shoulder than on the road.
I was told its all in the fun of running a 1960s classic.

There’s 2 for me. Yamaha RD125 ‘coffin tank’ and a couple of years later, an RD400, a very unforgiving machine if you didn’t treat her right.

Most fun, ’73 Yamaha RD350

Only ever had two, an early (H reg) Honda SS125 which I bought (from my brother) so that I could visit Duxford (although the first show was Staverton) as I wasn’t going to pedal it there, like I had done Halfpenny Green, Gaydon and Weston Park. It served me well for many years, until an “unfathomable” fault developed which my brother nor I could put right, so I took the bit by the horns and bought a brand new (T reg) Honda CB250N Super Dream.

I resold the SS125 back to my brother for the price I had paid (£20) even though I had only recently spent a lot on it, including new exhausts (£25 each) and lo and behold, he didn’t even bother leaving it a few weeks, next day he had “discovered” how to fix the fault and it was back on the road – we didn’t talk for some time after that.

My Super Dream never let me down, I forget what the mileage was when I gave it up, it’s just that I was getting too cold, too wet, too often, I needed a roof over my head and something more than an engine twixt my legs to keep me warm. I fotget what I sold it for, but just after I agreed a price someone came along and offered me twice as much – I hoped that the original deal would fall through, but that was one of those times when my morals got the better of me.

PeeDee, I may be wrong, but I think that R/Es are being made in India,

1961. Yeah, about then. Modern? Is somebody knocking out Enfields?

I just remember its Redness and Royal Enfield. Electra is in my head, drawing from the same sector of the disc but it may be there as a rogue byte.
