In the same vein as a couple of recent threads, feel free to spit up how you feel about these two monsters of animation.
My own opinion? Family Guy is vastly superior to The Simpsons, and has never jumped the shark. Each episode is fresh and entertaining, regardless of the storyline, and full of subtle pop culture references.
People have stated that Family Guy is a rip-off of The Simpsons, but I don’t think this is the case (except for the layout of the characters), especially since FG is a lot more adult.
While The Simpsons film parodies are somewhat entertaining, they typically stray too far from the original material, whereas the recent FG episode, Blue Harvest, spoofed Star Wars to the point where every joke worked brilliantly.
But hey, that’s just me! :diablo:

Either! (All though I think Simpsons is slightly better – even if family guy is funnier.)
I think i’ve watched more-a-less every episode of both… I need to get out more.

Family Guy is hilarious. The Simpsons was as good at one point but it has become a bit stale. Did you guys know that Cleveland is getting his own spinoff show? They’re also doing an Empire Strikes Back parody as well.

For me its Family Guy created by Seth MacFarlane who also does American Dad.
As for the best charcter it has to be Stewie Griffin 😎
I still watch Simpsons but its family Guy for me.

Family Guy is nothing but plagiarism of The Simpsons.
Though, it has its funny moments.
Overall, Simpsons for me please 🙂

I’d go with the Family Guy, for a different show how about Southpark? Last nights episode had a Whore Off staring Paris Hilton and a pineapple, slightly off and alternate.

Family guy rules!! I have the complete collection to date as well as the Blue Harvest one!
Has everyone seen the roof shopping cart jack a$$ episode??

FamilyGuy! Any day of the year. Gods gift to humanity!

Which you are entitled to. 😉

South Park, Simpsons, Family Guy, all US produced.
I’d rather watch with the twentieth rerun of Farty Owls, Warty Fowls, Farty Towels, Fatty Owls, or whatever else the Fawlty Towers sign was dubbed.
Personal opinion!!!!

I think this thread would maybe be more suited as “Family Guy vs South Park” – both adult targeted shows. I keep up to date with both and still enjoy South Park, though I would sit down to an episode of Family Guy first.
I’m with you there, but I myself am firmly in the South Park camp. Although I do enojy Family Guy most of the time, I find the ‘manitee jokes’ rather tiresome.

Simpsons will always be regarded as a cult classic and has churned out some very memorable characters, moments and episodes. However I do think it has passed it’s prime.
My vote goes for Family Guy. I know people who were once avid fans and have gone off it, people who prefer American Dad and people who plain just don’t like it – so it’s not for everyone. However, I love it. I love all the stupid cut scenes, the random characters/moments (like the Octopus!) and especially how they don’t hold back being politically incorrect 🙂 I also enjoy the recurring themes: Stewies supposed homosexuality, Brians love for Louis, The Chicken and Peter, Brians Novel 😉

Aren’t they both childrens shows??
No Steve, Family Guy especially was not made for children…although I can see why you may of thought that (could it be the fact that both are cartoons/animation?). Trust me, it would be totally different if was, just watch an episode or two and I’m sure you’ll understand why!:D

Has to be Family Guy Blue Harvest was a stroke of genius. The simpsons has had some glorious episodes but at the moment Family Guy rules Go Brian!
[X-Factor don’t make me laugh not worthy of being on the same planet as either of The simpsons/Family Guy]
By: cloud_9 - 14th December 2008 at 23:51
I’m wondering how anyone can watch stuff like that and knock progs like XFactor?
Be careful Joglo as I feel you might in danger of suffering a backlash of criticism like you have on another thread…;)
You can’t possibly compare something like Family Guy/The Simpsons to something like The X-Factor as they are two completely different types of TV shows aimed at a completely different audience/market/viewer (delete as appropriate)?
To answer the main question though, I think duxfordhawk sums it up nicely, as I too like the Simpsons but over-time think it has become a bit stale. As for Family Guy. I do find it very funny, you’ve gotta love Stewie Griffin, just brilliant!

I have all series of both on DVD and find them both just as enjoyable as the other. Although sadly it has to be said I don’t think The Simpsons is at the peak it once was….
There is alot of inconsistency with the newest episodes with some being very good and others being very poor and it seems an increasing dependence of special guests to add something to an episode. Agreed Family Guy has enough celebs dotted throughout the episodes but that is something they have always done so it’s somewhat expected now with the cut sequences etc and now they consistently deliver as does South Park!
Although if I was at a mates house with a few drinks, a pizza and a choice of a DVD? It would be Family Guy everytime probably!! 😀
That reminds me, it’s on BBC3 now….. 😉
“Cool Hwip….” :diablo:
