WR972 started out with the RAE in the standard maritime extra dark sea grey and white top but with nose, tail, fins (not the rudders), and tip tanks in silver. It then appeared in all over silver/natural metal with the underside yellow/black target tug stripes, before getting the final white, light grey, and dark blue scheme.
WG557 when with the Weapons Flight of the RAE was in extra dark sea grey top with white undersides, a reversal of the standard finish and with the demarcation line futher down the fuselage sides. It briefly wore ‘ROYAL NAVY’ legends on the rear fuse in its final ETPS days, the black bands were applied over wings (also on WR972) to hide the effects of exhaust soot
