There is some opinion that it was actually an initiative to get us (pilots) ‘on-side’, keeping our eyes open for suspicious happenings.

But as always with these things one or two of the newspapers have ‘sexed-up’ the story to stir up their readers into a froth of indignation about back-door immigration, people smuggling, drugs and all the rest.
