cracked it, re my post number 3, I’ve just spent a very enjoyable 1hr 36 mins watching Appointment in London, (not a hint of CGI!). Therein was the answer to my question the controller was Ronald Adam, who rejoined the RAF and became a controller at Hornchurch sector during the Battle of Britain as a Wing Commander. He joined the army in 1914 then transferred to the RFC, serving with 18, 44 and finally with 73Sq, where he was shot down on 7th April 1918, the general debate amongst historians was of him being the 78th victim of von Richthofen…
