i guess tony you were loking for that ilusive Hurricane that was there, shame old peter Arnold, Bought near enough everything, well anthing ww2 apart from that Prop boss from a hurri , i was in there searching for stuff for the canadian halifax, I even got quite a few visits from Karl Kjasgaard, hunting with me for bits, I took him to a multitude of places, looking for halibag bits,
I wish i had bought one of those canopys though, there was a pile of tidy ones, problem was i had to wait for the phone at home to get the Order from the canadian lot to bid on certain parts, and sadly they left it too late, by the time they phoned me, (no mobile back then),I got there in a rush and just missed it, I remember p,arnold grinning ear to ear as he had the “Worlds”
collection of spitfire undercarraige legs, Kygass primers, turret rings all sorts of goodies, Shame they scrapped the wings etc of WV838, Roy could do with tha stuff now,
is there Any Scrappies left, does hanningfords still get stuff?
or what about some of the museums ,gotta be honest some aircraft are in a right state, now i am not having a go, i know its hard and expensive to
try and look after a gaggle of aircraft at a museum , when they are outside for 20 + years, but some of the repairs, I saw a meteor once having patches of Sheet fibreglass plastered all over it, and it looked a right bodge job,
i remember thinking “ouch” what happens when a museum aircraft becomes
a dangerous liability , (IE its falling apart) I am sure there is a few aircraft like this in the country, I remember when the welsh museum closed, I really wanted the Mystere, that was abandoned there, but they were something to do with the USAF, and they were witnessed by them being scrapped,
