The bubble top Jug is indeed the one that went to Doug Arnold and then returned, now with Bob Pond as “Big Chief”. The Zero fuselage is most certainly an original, possibly the non-airworthy one still with PoF and now on display?

The Sea Fury fuselage was Robert Friedmans N20SF (VZ350). He was killed in a takeoff accident in it in 1978 at Waukegan Ill and Sanders used parts or ID for rebuild of VZ368 “Dreadnaught”

Did you attend any of the early CWH shows? They had some good ones, 4 Bearcats at one.

Thanks for the update on the Seafury. Interesting that the Burmese ‘kite’ still has the mirror and gantry.

CWH: My visits never coincided with a show and these were early days for CWH, first Buttonville, then the move to Hamilton. I did get to fly in all the toys. 🙂

Interesting photos Mk12, I made my first visit to Chino in 82 and have similar pics from then until the present.

I was also at Don Plumbs fly in in Windsor and have pics from it as well.
Unfortunately before the days of getting a really good camera!

Did you attend any of the early CWH shows? They had some good ones, 4 Bearcats at one.

The Seafury remains that you see , I think are from this aircraft pictured below. It was one of Doug Arnolds ex German Tug aircraft. Not sure of the number (at work), but it crashed on take-off and burned from an airport in Illinois.I think in 1978. You can see the fire damage on the center section and around the rear cockpit in MK12’s picture. It was on the cover of an issue of Air Classics in 1977.

The Zero is real.

It’s the second Zero PoF have. As I understand the wings were cut off with a torch when recovered and the airframe was restored in the late seventies where the wings were re-attached (after the flyable Zero was restored) No prizes for guessing that this airframe is only static.

The P-38 is the one that was restored as Joltin Josie and is now in olive drab.

Stunning… Razorback P47, Me262, bits of old aeroplanes lying everywhere… must have been such an exciting time to be involved in what was then I guess still a fledgling industry.

A question, in the shot of the 2-place Iraqi Fury, has anyone got an id of what the fuselage section to the left bearing D-Day-esque stripes and the number “52”:

The two place Seafury was Ex Burmese Air force, as I recall, but they had taken the paint off – ‘smartish’. That usually means something 😉 There was also a single Seafire XV wing with the package that eventually found a good home in the UK.

The smaller piece of Seafury fuselage looks like the Reno Racer from the Sanders’ organisation. Perhaps it came to grief? I think I have shots of it racing somewhere.

These pictures are fantastic Mark, if you ever find anymore like these please please please post them. I take it the Thunderbolt in the last lot of pics was the one which went to Doug Arnold shortly afterwards?

When I took ’em they didn’t seem that special.

It is only 25 years on that the seemed to have gathered a bit of an aura.

I am sure shots taken today, in interesting places, will have the same effect on a yet unborn new generation.

The fun is the new technology that allows one to rake out old material, tinker with it, collate it and present it. 🙂

The P-47: Do you mean the ‘Razor Back’? Doug Arnold’s (no relation, if relevant) ‘Little Demon’ was restored by Ray Stutsman in Elkhart Indiana – I flew in that on a later trip in 1985.

To me it looks as though it has the wrong centre section to be anything which might have started life as a Harvard.
