Just wondering if any of the forum regulars are going to be at the Great Vintage Fly-in Weekend at Abingdon on the 15th and 16th?

Nice to meet everyone yesterday – sorry I dashed off but I was warned about the possible queue if we waited to get away.

What a brilliant event! Thought the arrivals were coming in thick and fast, most people made it without too much dificulty, apart from a few overshoots.
The highlight for me was Desmond Penrose agreeing to a photoshoot of the newly restored Miles Hawk, and seeing it just off the wingtip of my Cub, glowing in the early evening light. We had to fly left hand orbits, so that he , on the outside of the circle, was going a bit quicker, since he reckoned my 70 mph was a bit on the slow side. I hope that the photographer got something good, and it should be in print shortly.
A few ‘overnight’ aircraft including the Cub, Queen Bee, and the Chrislea Ace enjoyed an early morning flight today, when the sky was empty, apart from balloons. No ATC, a vast runway, and the air so still it felt like running on rails. Just magic.

Abingdon today
Taifun – what day you are going to G-VFWE then?
Taifun and Damien meet at Abingdon today!
By: Chipmunk Carol - 14th May 2004 at 23:42
Patty
The number for Terry A Booker, G-VFWE Operations Office, given on the instructions is 01202 737430 (ops@eventsthatwork.com), which is in Dorset, so presumably his home number. I’m informed that Terry is now at Abingdon.
The Pre-registration & a/c-related enquiries no is Peter Cambell’s 01747 838165 cirrus.sw@virgin.net. That is your best bet.
I know Taifun & Damien both have the Pilot instructions in .tif form, so maybe they can email them to you. Failing that, PM me with a fax no if you have one. I’ll be in tomorrow morning to send it if need be.
Taifun, will definitely be there on the Sunday, I cannot answer for whether he will be there on Saturday or not.
Good luck.
Janie

Has anyone got a contact number for Peter Campbell (Mobile number etc). My other half has ‘misplaced’ my joining instructions and I cant remember my booking in number… What a way to stop me flying in!
By: robbelc - 14th May 2004 at 21:04
I’ll be there on Sunday, just look out for the spotter with the telescope and notebook, I wont be too difficult to spot 😉 .

Steve Patterson (pumpin’ pint puller of Suffolk) and I will be there Sat am, before we head off to Old Warden Sat pm. Do we gather near Peter Holloway’s Maggie at 12.00 then?
Jumpin Jacques… Oh dear. Is that a Mustang? Does it have Buick engine? 😀

My pleasure.
The haze over the S.E. has cleared up now. The sun is shining and I can feel a mighty fine weekend approaching.
Jumpin’ Jucques should be at Abingdon on Saturday.
See y’all soon!

Taifun!!
“Thank you thank you thank you for this fantastic weekend landing slot. I’d like to thank Jainie for sending me the fax with the details, MarkV for sending the fax to her so she can send it to me, Damien for pointing Jainie towards the Flyer Forum, Yak11 for not taking the slot, Peter Teichman for giving Jainie a slot so I could have this one, MoggyC for having an unreliable aircraft that won’t make the flyin. I’d like to also thank my friend Phil for booking a Friday meeting with me at 3pm (done by 4) so I can get home early and do the lawn and finally The Old Fun Spoiler herself who said I could go (as long as the lawn is done)..
I love you all

Taifun.
I would dearly like to help. I have been very lucky in being donated one definite slot and possibly one other. I am waiting for two people to come back to me at the moment.
I wouldn’t rely on this. Do keep looking.
I shall keep you informed. I may not have a response until Friday though.
Janie
Thanks Jainie really appreciate it, let me know…

According to the Instructions for Visiting Pilots:
“Squadron Leader Neville Duke has once again kindly agreed to make the presentations” and
“Alex Henshaw … intends to be present during the weekend”. His new book “Wings across the Great Divide” will be on sale there (Free to pilots flying in!)
The Alex Henshaw book has been delayed. See:- http://www.zolid.com/cirrus/
May try to squeeze in both Abingdon and Old Warden on Saturday. Am I crazy? (don’t answer that!)

If there is anyone out there with a slot that they won’t be using could they please contact me so I can take the Messerschmitt 108. Happy to make a modest donation to a charity of their choice..
All this is subject to Jainie having first refusal..
Thanks
Taifun
