Any immigration, controlled or uncontrolled has a negative impact on those who are competing for certain essential services in areas of high population density, eg. education, health and housing. The established population who themselves might be of ethnic origins are, according to media sources, most vocal in their desire to have zero or strictly controlled levels of immigration.

Indeed, 298,399 additional people to a population of 63,489,234. I.E. 0.47% or sod all in the greater scheme of things.
Certainly not an additional strain on over stretched resources as some seem to want to portray it. 🙂

It might seem like “sod all” to someone not living here, but, to a nation which already houses an average 261 people per square kilometre, and is only building 137,000 homes per annum, when there’s already a need for 220,000-300,000, it puts quite a substantial strain on available resources.

Not being able to control immigration from within the EU equals uncontrolled immigration from within the EU.

Well yea whatever, if it is technical definitions you are worried about you win…

You haven’t addressed the point about being able to demonstrate that said immigration actually has a negative impact, which I would contend is rather more important than technical points scoring with regard to the meaning of English.

No proof no point.

I doubt it is institutionally left wing but just happens to have had a fairly left wing news room over the years – a number of insiders have testified to that. But I think it’s alleged bias has been overstated.

But of course it should not display any bias in any direction or if it does it should balance it out.

Having said that I do not listen or watch enough BBC political output to comment authoritatively as others do here.

Have just come back to this thread.. and I have a question.

Why WOULD the BBC have a left-wing bias? Serious question. Over the decades the right have thrown this at the beeb every time they highlight something nasty in the Tory wood-shed, but nobody has ever explained any motive as to why such an institution would be ‘institutionally socialist’, to coin a phrase. Anyone? John?

Where is this “uncontrolled immigration” you speak of?
Net movement of people to and from the UK was an increase of 0.47% of the population using the last available figures.

Just a small point, but that minuscule figure, in a population of 63,489,234, equals an influx of 298,399.
“There are lies, damned lies, and statistics.”

Provided the tests of which you speak are actually applied. Hardly a day goes past without some report of medical incompetance or negligence.

In the Daily Mail maybe. That rag is the worst culprit in denegrating medical staff. Through the pressure from Paul Dacre who has a congenital dislike of any nationalised service, their ‘journalists’ cannot be trusted to offer objective reporting. Just look at Paul Johnsons piece about Clare Gerada today.

I once had a long talk to a Daily Mail journalist, she happened to be writing for the women’s section. The pressure they were under to give any ‘news’ story a particular spin actually led her to quit in disgust. I am sure this happens in other papers, just ask Peter Oborne, but if one cannot recognise this in the sources one reads it is likely to lead to a very skewed perspective

Fine you’re not “anti immigration.”

Where is this “uncontrolled immigration” you speak of?

Net movement of people to and from the UK was an increase of 0.47% of the population using the last available figures.

That includes both EU and non EU folk.

How the heck is that an “uncontrolled” tsunami of EU immigrants as you and others seek to portray it?

You also need to demonstrate how EU immigration has negatively impacted the UK by demonstrating that a significant majority do not pay taxes, national insurance and generally contribute by their presence and in fact simply claim benefits for your claims to hold water.

Remarks along the lines of “everybody knows” or “a guy in the pub said” are not valid data, neither are sensationalist TV programmes. Real data please.

In closing people would not come to the tiny island off the coast of Europe if there were not job opportunities awaiting them.
If you think you can counter that with the benefits claim stuff, which as noted previously I believe to be generally false with respect to EU workers in any case, please consider this; it is within the power of the UK Government to limit those who are eligible to claim benefits. The EU has nothing to do with the UK benefits system.

I think it is a little more thorough than that. All new doctors must complete an English test and a skills test, whatever their qualifications, real or imagined. Whilst the skill test is allegedly not as stringent as the UK qualifications, one would not be able to pass with a fake certificate.

Well it is either naivety or an inability to think for oneself resulting in the parroting of populist pap.

So as the BBC show us your “thoughts” in relation to the EU and the trafficking problem are at best somewhat dated…What will you chaps find next to whine about? 🙂

PS as an immigrant myself I do rather take exception to your anti immigrant views. PPS where were your folks from? Not Saxony perchance?

As usual – you are completely missing the point snafu LOL – I am not anti immigration !!

I am anti uncontrolled immigration …. there is a fundamental difference ; )

I think for myself – I do not follow trends/fashion/political dogma and also I hope you read carefully what Alan posted at #64 – similar to what I posted earlier !

Jump on an aeroplane to almost any third world country and you can buy for very few shekels ‘authentic’ looking medical degrees confirming that you are now an MD. Apply for a job in the NHS and bingo ! You’re in ‘happy time’.

At one time, you could buy said ‘qualifications’ over the internet thus saving an airfare. Don’t know whether it is still possible. So cloud cuckoo land ? Certainly there are ‘degrees’ to match !

Plenty of doctors around if you know where to look – and ‘nurses’ from the Phillipines.

Dave’s latest speech again shows politicians lack of understanding of the true issues. How do they get it so wrong?

http://www.telegraph.co.uk/news/nhs/11611478/Seven-day-NHS-will-be-created-with-thousands-more-GPs-David-Cameron-to-say.html

Cloud cuckoo land. Where are the GP’s going to come from? There is a real recruitment crisis that is going to take longer than 5 years to turn around, and the politicians and press bear a great deal of the responsibility for the lack of doctors in training deciding to choose this career route. In two local rural practices, one had only three people apply for a vacant post, none of whom were suitable, another had no applications. At all. Zip, nada, niente

Look at a map of Europe.

Use your magnifying glass to find the UK.

Then you will see why uncontrolled immigration is a problem here.

The numbers that support your claims of misery will be along shortly I suppose? Strange that you didn’t provide them.

Immigration from the EU has not caused misery as your hyperbole would have it. Any naivety being displayed is right there with such comments.
Well it is either naivety or an inability to think for oneself resulting in the parroting of populist pap.

As for immigration from non EU countries you will no doubt be shocked to learn that I would be in absolute favour of the military being used to turn around and return those boats to the shores from whence they come. In fact the proposals by the EU today as described here: http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-europe-32776688 are very much in line with that thought. (Careful it’s the BBC… :))

So as the BBC show us your “thoughts” in relation to the EU and the trafficking problem are at best somewhat dated…What will you chaps find next to whine about? 🙂

Given your comments re immigration in the first quote your bias is showing, so you’ll have to excuse me if I take your following comments re BBC bias as the obviously biased tosh that they are 🙂

Snafu – as usual you just come over as extremely naive ; ) – funny old thing – immigration has to be controlled – ignore the obvious dangers of uncontrolled immigration at your peril !
At the moment the EU are jumping to the Human Traffickers Tune – how many do you accept ?? – Africa has an almost limitless supply of people and the traffickers are working up to industrial numbers of people – of course added to the completely outdated idea of ‘open borders’ – result misery…. we are only a small island with overstretched resources esp for welfare and health.
Mainland Europe is of course a far larger landmass and therefore can accept limitless ‘refugees’ : )

What is wrong with basv’s comment re financial sabotage and uncontrolled immigration ? Where have you been? We all know what has been going on. Or is it more because basv indicts Labour as the culprit ?

Red Ed as good as pleaded guilty, because of his omission of these topics, at the last Labour Party conference. When you don’t want to talk about a problem that your party initiated, it is because you feel as guilty as hell.

Labour only have themselves to blame SF – they managed to lose in spite of blatant left wing bias on the BBC – they were really pushing milliband and sturgeon on there – Labour need to select a credible leader with some personality/charisma and even then it will take a while for people to forget the financial sabotage/uncontrolled immigration of the Broon/Mandy years !

rgds baz

I watched the BBC (it is on in our crewroom – so captive audience yawn) – it was blatant Left bias ; ),I do not need anybody from a newspaper to decipher what I actually watch LOL

I never read snoozepapers so cannot comment on them !

Quel surprise that a Radio Times article says no bias at the Beeb – and Alistair Campbell – come on – give us somebody credible LOL
