Here are the first of a batch of mini-digi shots, back ups to a photo shoot at the IAF Museum in Delhi this past Monday.
All these aircraft get repainted every year.
For many there will be nothing new here but I understand the two Iskra trainers are recent additions this past December.
My grateful thanks are extended to the the staff at the museum who laid on facility on a non-public day.
So in no particular order straight off the top of the pile…

Now at the risk of upsetting the apple cart, how would indian pilots fit in the cockpit with their turbans on? If they did wear them in the aircraft? How would the ear phones fit?, what about the goggles?
Sorry if they seem daft but its not something i have ever thought about until now

I agree with you David. At least with covering these aircraft in layers of paint, it keeps the underlying material in a decent condition for when they have the budget to do something more authentic.

I don’t really care about the ‘interesting’ schemes or indeed the condition of the exhibits . The Indians deserve full marks for being able to save a Wapiti -something
that we singularily failed to do!

Once again… Is it me or is there a big difference between the port view of the Hurricane (in the last shot) and the view from starboard? Is the prop hanging off in that last picture but not in the other???:eek:
And is that a modern style wrap-around paint scheme on the former Canadian Lysander?

I suspect the Spit looks ‘decidedly droopy’ due to the weight of all those coats of paint!! Does anyone know why the Wapiti has blue/white/blue roundels(Greek?).

Repainted once a year? From a Dulux chart?;)
The biplane is a Wapiti and used to be marked K183. The Hurricane marked AB832 used to be marked AP832 – both serials are from missing blocks (the AB serial was between Spitfires, the AP serial between Hurricanes) – and used to have undercarriage doors. Info from Vintage and Veteran Aircraft.
Is it me or does Spitfire HS986 looks decidely droopy around the prop?

Nice pictures – the gear on the Hurricane looks suspiciously non-standard, and the same goes for the first biplane. The collection looks well cared for though. Nice to see everything undercover.
