I asked webbie today if we can have one of these as I know there’s lot’s of interest. I’m not a huge fan of the sub divided forums of late, but if there’s one that’s lacking then surely this is it ?
I know some of you guys have been suggesting the same, so if you still think it’s a good idea then let’s hear about it ? 😉

I will collate the most useful info and drop into the FAQs or make a sticky thread for relevant forums.

Although it has been intimated (elsewhere, not just here) that FAQs are viewed even less often than the Trips sub-forum.
Rock gig? Not a punk one (how corrosive is salivia?) or a metal one (staining from chickens blood?) or one where the alcohol arrives in cap-less plastic bottles (work it out for yourself!)?
Bite the bullet and embrace the noise – in all meanings of the word!

[QUOTE=Silver Snapper]Excellent idea, a forum where we can discuss equipment, techniques, digital darkroom and much more…
Now anyone out there know where I can purchase a Vosonic X-Drive with a 20gb hdd for under £150?
Update on this: From info received I have just placed an order for a new Vosonic x-Drive with a 40gb hdd for £155 incl shipping (UK) supplier. 😎

Anyone got any tips for shooting a rock gig ? Variable lighting levels moving artistes, need to make the colours look real and not looking too flash lit ?
Using Canon 10D various lenses. 😀
The Canon 28-135 and 70-300 image stabilised lenses should do the trick? 🙂

Well seeing as their won’t be a forum as such how about using this thread to discuss the matter ?
Why not? There are a lot of guys/gals out there who
need serious advice/comments on photo equipment.

I have tried Ebay, the Germans are cheap but I don’t like
their payment methods, Australia is equally cheap but
the thought of 2 week delivery, £30 shipping and possible
duty/Vat charges rule them out. :p

Webby, we see the same questions time after time concerning basic photographic techniques such as obtaining blurred propellers, please could you add at least a few of these oft-repeated questions in the general FAQ section? I know there are non-aviation Forums on this site to which these may not be relevant, but the general heading for the site is after all “Aviation Forums”!
I am not suggesting detailed Photoshop techniques but a little general advice would save a lot of back-references to threads where the same questions have been answered before.

There will not be a photography forum, I believe that the photo subjects should be in their relevant forum. If we were to create a photo forum we would have to create 5 sub forums, for each subject and related FAQ forum.
I suggest that if anyone has any questions on photography to ask their fellow members. If people think that a FAQ section would be useful we could incorporate that somewhere, perhaps a sticky at the top of each forum, but just to confirm regards the photo forum its a no go.
Your friendly neighbourhood webby.

please no…… dont do this, it wont have an end, you will keep getting subjects that could do well in there own forum and end up like airwise.com or jetphotos.com. Which is the last thing i would like to see.

Well, you’ve seen my views above, anyone else want to have a go?

Aren’t we discussing here two different things: “advice on photographic techniques with suitable examples” and “look what pix I’ve taken at the latest air show/museum”? If I understand you correctly, Flood, you are advocating a new Forum for the former, while leaving the latter in the Historic Forum. Am I right?
How about if it is news-worthy it goes on its respective forum (for example a new colour-schemed airliner, a first visit, a new arrival at Duxford, an airshow where the aircraft in the picture are the reason for the thread, or if it is just the odd pix with a design to stimulate debate, that sort of thing), but if it is just ‘here are some of me old snaps’ with no relevance to anything in particular but simply that they look nice then – maybe to save the unwary wading through dozens of images when they are looking for debate – have them on a separate forum. This would in addition to the ‘how to do its’ and ‘I did it like this’, etc
Or however you think. I am just voicing my opinion; I am eager to hear your views.

Regarding the successor to kev35 as a moderator, shouldn’t it be the person with the next highest votes in the poll?
As far as the commercial forum goes, the order of voting was Kev in 1st place, me in 2nd, A330 Crazy in 3rd and Kabir T in 4th.
As for the photo forum… I perceive it to be a discussion based on hints, tips and advice on all matters pertaining to the art of taking pictures of aircraft.
Questions like, How do I get a prop blur?, how do I get the best out of my little £100 digi cam? I’m thinking of an SLR but I don’t know what to do with one? How do I get decent prints, I want to approach a magazine with my stuff? All those kind of questions, exchanges of ideas and views would make for excellent reading.
I also see the forum as a useful photo resource to refer to and discuss. The threads we already see based upon let’s say a day’s snapping at Heathrow or Legends should remain where they are, but perhaps the odd masterclass using members pictures as discussion material would be useful as well.
It strikes me that there’s a broad range of photographers on these forums, from keen amateurs with basic equipment, to seasoned pro’s travelling the world with the best of gear.
Do we have too many forums and and should we lose one or two… ? I’d put the trip reports forum back in to commercial to be honest and I’m still not sure why the military forum has divided up the way it has ? 😀

Yes, but since the voting forum has disappeared who is it? – Nermal

Great idea
I think it is a great idea for sharing private photo albums. Maybe it could be organized like airliners.net where entries are searchable and thus remain a valuable resource. Anyway I am curious how this idea will evolve.

The webmaster assured us that this forum would not end of like the JetPhotos.net one, where there is a forum for just about everything you can think of.
I think things are just satisfactory as they are at the moment.
