'Battle of Britain' Luftwaffe badges

I’m looking for information, and photos, regarding any badges, staffel or geschwader, carried by the ‘Me109s’ & ‘He111s’ in the film ‘Battle of Britain’. How many different ones were there, and does anyone have a list of which badges were carried by which individual aircraft?

Geoff.

Wasn’t there one lurking in a shed at Gransden a while back?

I’m sure it must be the same badge, don’t think they’d have two so similar, defeats the point of trying to make it look like more units are involved. Still would be nice to make out the bow.

Geoff,

I have temporarily mislaid that image . I think it might be a cinema lobby card.

In the mean time here is another shot showing you what you want.

I know, it was the full size version that I’ve tried to enlarge. I just thought that Mark might have a better quality copy that would enlarge better.

Geoff, that image is half-size. The full-size version would’t go on the forum (too big) so maybe it’ll come up better from that?

That’s the one I was thinking of too. I’ve tried enlaging this image to get a better look at the badge on the CASA, but it just blurrs. I don’t suppose Mark 12 could do a better enlargement of the badge on the CASA?

Looks like the one on this Heinkel, one of Mark12’s earlier images.

I’ve finally managed to get hold of a photo showing the badge from ‘Battle of Britain’, donated to our museum by Alan Killen, which was found blowing around Duxford during the making of the film.

Judging by the cr*p stuck to the back, it was pulled off one of the ‘Heinkels’ which was at Duxford.

Any thoughts DDM & Mark 12?

I’ll see how much space I use up with the “general” aircraft, location etc stuff. If possible I’ll add it in.

Looking through Len Mosley’s book on the making of ‘BoB’, I see that Don Federico Eglesias Lanzos was killed flying a Bouchon from Tablada on the 20/1/68. Lanzos was due to fly a Bouchon in the flying sequences for ‘BoB’ but died whilst doing aerobatics on his own. A minutes silence was held in his memory on the 13/3/68, I believe this was the first days filming – the opening scene that runs behind the titles.

Was this the only fatality involved with the film? Will he be mentioned on the website?

DDM,

Post away. Most of these, uncredited, are official stills.

If Mark12 doesn’t mind, I’ll use some of these Heinkel pics on the site.

Mark,

I haven’t seen the badge myself yet. I’m hoping to get a copy of it in the next few days, and when I do, I’ll post it on here.

Geoff,

Three more colour stills of the Heinkels.

Do any of these look like the one?
