They can’t do that!!!
They will try and update it, make them from something that is not wool, not knitted, add additional characters and just, you know, ruin it.
I showed my kids The Clangers from YouTube and they loved it – even the sixteen year old. It was innocent fun from years ago and (like The Magic Roundabout, which they also loved) something which really does not need to be updated.
Other things from my youth that my kids thoroughly enjoyed were Ivor the Engine, Bagpuss, Batman (the 1960’s live action one), Captain Pugwash, Mr Benn, Willo the Wisp and Ludwig, Sir Prancealot, Roobarb, even Postman Pat (not with the older ones though). Thomas the Tank Engine was dismissed as being childish, and they um’d and ah’d over Skippy the Bush Kangaroo (so we never went back). None of them were all that interested in Stingray, Joe 90, or Thunderbirds (“you can see the strings!”).
What do you remember watching from your youth, and what would you like to see updated/remade for your kids, grand kids, great grand kids, etc?

Those programmes were of their time. Today’s kids have different amusements. You can’t re-invent that stuff, a big part of it’s charm was its amateur nature-try to update it and you lose the magic.
As for Alf Garnet and the like-good riddance to bad rubbish.
You can’t reinvent it, but why do they have to remake it?
And I was never all that keen on the Alf Garnet stuff – it wasn’t all that far from the Royle Family, which I wasn’t a fan of either.
On the odd occasions I have caught a glimpse of childrens TV nowadays my thoughts have been, why are all the presenters so childish and excitable.
Rather like kids who have been force-fed sweets with high levels of E-numbers like lab rats, in fact?
I was shocked one day to listen to D!ck and Dom whilst doing something else, discovering how scatological and puerile their material was: apparently they now want to be taken seriously!

Yes i agree but it’s not just childrens TV .It is almost a case of you have to be louder,scream longer, be more hyper than anyone else to get noticed even on normal TV.Oh and being really camp or really really queer helps.

I wonder how Alf Garnet,Rigsby, and the likes would get on these days on T.V. Bet the P.C. Brigade would have fits, some of the best T.V. ever, not to forget Hancocks Half hour. Why shouldn’t they be shown again?. When in Rome etc, springs to mind. If those “Offended” don’t like it, there is the “On/Off switch.Or better still, go home to their roots, wherever that may be.

Yes, you are right, actually. These programmes are not for us They are for youngsters with quite different expectations. Although I have to say that my grandson adored the Clangers when we have shown him on You Tube!! I reckon it’s still better and more interesting to create new stories and new characters for the 21st century than to look back.

I guess our childhoods are different.In those days it was cutting edge,it was all we knew and we grew up to love them.I have to say there are very few remakes that are better than the originals,occasionally it works .
When my children were little it was the Teletubbies and Tweenies.I daresay in this CGI and computer led world expectations of what can be done is much higher and needs to be to keep youngsters amused.
I lament the loss of the original Tom and Jerrys -fantastic stuff – – non PC now though.

Ah yes.. nostalgia isn’t what it used to be.
Let’s face it, some of those old cartoons were rubbish. Poor animation and non-stories. Why not update them and make them more relevant to todays kids?
Also the 2005 remake of Captain Scarlet was brilliant. It even had the BBMF Lancaster in one episode.
