Just wanted to say a public thankyou to all the staff at the BBMF who entertained us this evening. I am sure we will all agree that it was fantastic to see all their wounderful aircraft at close quaters.
Paul Blackah showed my group around and we could not have asked for a more knowledgeable & friendly guide. Thanks Paul :).
I am sure there will be loads of pics later on, and I may even post some of mine…
Cheers
Jonathan

Not part of the tour because I have a new Wing Commander and the whole team had a familiarisation visit to the BBMF the Friday before. I also had a familiarisation visit in Apr 03 with my last Wg Cdr. It’s an interesting job I have in the Civil Service!. The attached photos are from that visit.

Doc, there wasn’t a jam at that time of night, but we did find a few cones that had been carelessly left in the road so after a quick detour via Old Warden we rejoined the A1 at Biggleswade.
Now here’s a happy chap!
Cheers Robbo! Does photoshop have a double-chin reducing pluggin?

What a superb day, where do I start with the thankyou’s!
A massive thankyou to the guys and girls (Jodie) at BBMF for allowing such priveleged view of the flight. Special thanks to ‘fluffy’ and ‘Stormin’ for organizing the visit and Ade Lynch for a fascinating insight into the electrical workings of the flights aircraft.
Highlight for me was walking or should I say crawling through the lanc, just superb.
What with EK, Petwood and the 617 memorial, this day will be very hard to surpass.
A personal thankyou to Robbo, for carrying out an epic eight hours plus at the wheel, the last few miles on three cylinders.
Septic.

Thank you BBMF
I would like to add my thanks to the BBMF guys and gal who organised and showed us around yesterday evening. The whole day was terrrific: meeting some of you forumites at EK, the Saga holiday coach tour of Woodhall Spa with tea at the Petwood Hotel, and a good gossip!
Visiting the hanger was a very special treat – I felt (and probably acted!) like a kid! The highspot for me was seeing inside the Lanc. The lowspot was being told off (everso gently) for answering my mobile up the gantry, as active mobiles make Avgas bubble!
As soon as I have seen what everyone else is posting as their piccies, I will show some of mine (and after I’ve photoshopped out my thumb and the blur).

PS Robbo – was there a jam on the A1?

I would like to echo the sentiments expressed by the other lucky few who took up BBMF’s kind invitation. A big thank you to everyone involved at BBMF and best wishes for a safe season.
It was also nice to meet other users of this forum and to put faces to usernames.

Glad you all enjoyed it. The Boss was very happy. We might get some lights sorted out for the carpark if we do it again. I’m sure more pictures were taken!!!!!!!!

We’d better not talk about this for too long, otherwise we”ll be accused of being a clique!
You’re a clique.

At least it was my fault, unlike that door …

I’ll heartily echo all previous comments, I fully enjoyed the evening, and many thanks to BBMF for laying it on for us. Thanks especially to usernamechanged for shepherding our group around, although in the interests of humour I really do think you ought to change your user name back again…
It was especially good to put a few more names to faces. And perhaps in Met24’s case, 20mm cannons to faces… 😉

Or a Clack.
Anyway – I’ve already said thank you on another thread – but no harm it saying it again – THANKS for a very memorable evening. I feel extremely priviledged to have had the opportunity to get “hands on” with such important and cherished machines.
I’m so happy, I can’t grin!!!!

p.s. So what is met24’s new nickname then?, I saw him try to unsuccessfully bend AB910’s cannon with his head but can’t come up with anything witty
I didn’t think he was tall enough to reach the cannon!!!! 😀

I would also like to echo the thanks already posted to the BBMF (Fluffy, Stormin and the C/O) for organising this event and also allowing it to happen – simply superb !!!
My Dad and I were in Fluffy’s (Paul) group, we spent sooooo much time chatting that I had to keep reminding myself to take photos. To sum it up, stunning and incredibly well cared for old aeroplanes, excellent chat and great company, what more could you ask for?
Thanks Paul 🙂
As to earlier in the day, East Kirkby was excellent, it was my first visit and the taxi run is wonderful – I echo met24’s comment “I’ll be back” 😀
It was nice to eventually meet some of the forumites and the join the “convoy” (was it 7 or 9 cars?) to Woodhall Spa and then on the the Petwood Hotel – great fun sitting on the terrace sipping tea and chatting, thanks to all of you for the excellent company.
All in all a great day, and when did I eventually get home to Kent – 12:20am !!! 😮 😮 but well worth it, thanks to all who made it a day to remember.
p.s. So what is met24’s new nickname then?, I saw him try to unsuccessfully bend AB910’s cannon with his head but can’t come up with anything witty

I would also like to pass on many thanks to the BBMF for the superb evening -especially Chris who showed our group around – I will look forward to seeing some pro-pictures from the likes of DB rather than post any of mine! – My Dad also enjoyed the evening.
At last I managed to get in the Lanc – seemed a world apart from the B17! – and promptly did the splits over the spar!!
My only shame is that I didn’t manage to get the whole day off work so arrived at East Kirby to see the lanc being pushed back into the hanger! – But my first visit there and what a place!!
Excellent Day out
