Here’s hoping you feel differently before you die!

One billion Hindus probably feel the same way about you. 😎

We live on one little planet revolving around a sun, which is just another star.
It is estimated that there are around 500,000,000,000 such stars in our Milky Way galaxy alone, and our best estimate is that there are 100,000,000,000 galaxies in the whole universe.
In the great scheme of things, all of us humans are no more important than some splattered fly on a windshield, or a grain of sand on Mars, and it would only take a very small cosmic incident to wipe us out altogether, and the universe would carry on as if nothing had ever happened here.
To me, religion is just a comfort blanket for frightened souls, who just won’t accept how vitally unimportant we all are, and must invent a powerful being/deity to look after our wellbeing. It hinges on mankind being the centre of the universe (made in God’s image), which is entirely laughable…

No disrespect intended, but why would Kev35 want to feel differently before he died? I’m just playing Devil’s Advocate here, but to me, that remark implicitly implies that your opinion/beliefs are right, and his are wrong…

Ian.

Jesus Jones the plumber I could believe in, Jesus Christ the Son of God I find impossible to believe and before anyone suggests he died for my sins (almost 2,000 years before I was born) that would be his own fault. He didn’t die for me.

If you don’t care and it’s not true (which I’m not at all accepting), then it shouldn’t really matter to you if we want to believe – as it’s all pointless in the end anyway.

Here’s hoping you feel differently before you die!

More to the point why did he have Pandas on board? What is the point of saving something that choses to live on a diet which it cannot digest properly and obtains practically no nutritional value from? The Giant Panda spends up to 14 hours a day hunting for enough food to provide it with enough energy to hunt for food. Hardly a logical creature to preserve if you ask me.

It’s cute and pretty.
Noah was a bloke, like a bouncer on the door he let the nice ones in and told the uglies to f off.
Wasps and Mozzies sneaked in through the vents.

It’s strange you mention that, because lately I’ve felt that the complete opposite is true – those who don’t believe in God are being demonised (so to speak).
The western world is run by people with an almost fundamentalist view of religion, like Gordon Brown (and Tony Blair before him), and Obama (and Bush before him!). The war against Iraq could almost be looked on as a crusade for them…

I totally support you.
Jesus was an unemployed loser going round causing trouble amongst the poor. No wonder the Roman’s nailed him up. He didn’t die on the cross, just went into a coma and was assumed dead.
And yes, the CofE and the catholics are just as fundamentally flawed as the usual fundamentalist idiots. Just look at them at the vatican when the boss comes out! Brainwashed as a suicide bomber.
However, I do support any crusade against the anti-christians once they step out of line, for whatever excuse or purpose.

I especially didn’t understand why Noah had penguins on the ark

Even if you don’t believe that He existed, you might like to pass a few minutes playing Run Jesus Run the online game –

http://www.webuser.co.uk/websites/online-fun-blog/games/448443/run-jesus-run-play-game-online

where you can do Jesus things like attending the Last Supper.

I actually find this pretty offensive.I’d complain like the clappers if family matters weren’t draining all my energy at the minute.

Don’t forget that the Gospels were written well after the events and it is unproven by whom they were written. So that everything pertaining to the story of Christ is probably a mixture of hearsay and myth. Good stories though, if you like that sort of thing. There was certainly no love lost between Romans and Jews so it was a hotbed for stories.

Actually Kev, the existence of Jesus can and has been proven. The name was very common in the Middle East over 2000 years ago. Whether Jesus Christ the son of god and saviour of mankind ever existed is a different question.

I guess it could be said that because he is mentioned in all the mainstream religious texts then there is a very high probability that he was real, however they all differ as to whether he was the son of god (other gods are available) or just one of the Apostles.

We have recently been engaged by two Catholic Churches to photograph the lessons and first holy communions for 49 children. Being an agnostic and a devout sceptic I found the indoctrination hard to take or understand. I especially didn’t understand why Noah had penguins on the ark

I am just pleased that this is being discussed on this Forum at this time.
As has been expressed before I believe but I accept that others do not or even feel the need to have a faith.
I am beginning to feel that there are campaigners with access to the media who would appear to be activily striving to remove any sence that faith should be allowed to exists. No live and let live.
Thank you.
PS I have a bad memory AKA my conscience is clear.:-) I wish.

I often wonder if senior clergy and theologians actually believe it themselves, or are just involved in it as an intellectual exercise. But I suppose it boils down to the fact that they can’t prove God does exist any more than I can that he doesn’t.
And if there is no God, there’s been one hell of a lot of wasted time, energy, and lives over the last few millenia, all over the planet!

The relationship between belief and intelligence is an enigma. I too feel as you have expressed it in your last paragraph. And one thing is very clear; that those who do believe are very unlikely to be shaken from their belief and those who do not are very unlikely to have a conversion.

It is a truism to state that the unbeliever will never be disappointed by death. If there is nothing more than that is that. If there is something more it will be a bonus. For the believer an afterlife will be expected, but if there is nothing it will be a bitter blow – or at least it would be if they knew!!

That Jesus was an actual person is recorded in contemporary historical Hebrew and Roman documents. He must have been an extraordinary man of his time, but a lot of the ‘facts’ written about him in the Bible were completed centuries after he died, by people with their own agenda.
The New Testament amazes me, though. Even though it was written when most of the known world was a brutal, bloodthirsty place, the message is peace and love – it is a great manual on how to live a decent life.
What I find hard to understand is how many intelligent people can simply accept that his Dad was some kind of divine omnipresent being, who watches over us and cares for us. I put it down to the fact that people just can’t accept that this life is all there is – they must believe that things will be better in the next life, when they finally shuffle off…

The existence of the Beatles can be proven beyond any doubt. Can the same be said for Jesus?

Did i say that i can prove Jesus existed.?? No… i said ‘i believe’ that Jesus Christ existed.!
The evidence offered in the Scriptures and by Roman historians is considered by many to be evidence enough. Whether one believes the evidence or not is a personal choice. You appear not to believe.. i do.!
